Slash Regrets Using "Gay" Disparagingly

SLASH X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

In describing a Michael Jackson song, guitarist Slash used the word "gay" — and he now regrets his choice of words.

The former Guns n' Roses member is often credited as the guitarist behind the Michael Jackson hit "Black or White." But at last week's Canadian Music Week, Slash said, "I never played on ['Black or White']. If you listen to [the hook], that's gay. I'd never play that."

Slash now tells the website Spinner.com, "I thought about that afterward 'cause really that just came right out ... now I think it sounded a bit too derogatory. What I really meant was that the sound of the guitar is very happy. It just doesn't sound like me, anyone would know that. It's not the guitar sound you would expect from me, but somehow I got pigeonholed as the guy who played on that song."

Thanks for clarifying yourself, Slash. I, for one, appreciate it when someone acknowledges a mistake.

so, Slash referred to a series of guitar riffs as "gay"...CALM DOWN, PEOPLE...jeez, melodramatic much?...for a bunch of people who are very literal-minded, we get really UPTIGHT and CONSERVATIVE-LIKE whenever celebrities use that word to describe something that clearly isn't about sexual preference...we got bigger fish to fry that some guitarist from an 80's hair band, don't you think?...plus, i think anything associated with Michael Jackson should get an automatic pass when referred to as "gay"...
