Even before his latest film hits theaters, interest is already brewing about Tyler Perry's next production, based on the 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, reports MTV.com. The website says both Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson are in negotiations to star.

The play is based on a series of 20 poems about women, each represented by a color of the rainbow, with topics ranging from love to abandonment.

"Ntozake Shange's play is a magnificent tribute to the strength and dignity of women of color, and I think audiences of all generations will be able to recognize and embrace the experiences these women represent," Perry said in a statement.

Whoopi Goldberg, Halle Berry, Jill Scott, and Oprah Winfrey are already attached to appear in the film. For Colored Girls is currently expected to film in New York City this June and is scheduled for release in early 2011.

TYLER PERRY NEEDS MADEA IN HIS MOVIES MORE. PERSONALLY, I DONT ENJOY THE ONES WITHOUT HER AS MUCH... I MEAN THEY ALL HAVE A MESSAGE NO MATTER WHAT, YET AND STILL MADEA PUTS THE ICING ON THE CAKE. I WON'T BE AS QUICK TO RUN TO THE MOVIE THEATERS IF MADEA ISN'T IN THE MOVIE.

I enjoy Tyler Perry because I am always able to relate his movies, in some way, to my own family or life. I think he truly strives to present the good, the bad, and the ugly of black families in his films. One area in which I would agree he should explore more is black lgbt life. He should have a first hand understanding of that if you know what I mean. I think the time will come, it's more of a question of when.

@Simon: Um, I'd say Mariah became "colored" at the moment of her birth. Her father is of African-American and Afro-Venezuelan heritage.

Mark Thompson, african-american talk-host, of Sirius radio/left, had a guest on recently who called Perry a "neo-Coon", someone who makes backward-stereotyped portrayals of black folks FOR PROFIT. Someone needs to expose this closet-case and his demeaning "craft"......by the way, I am white.
