Gay College Senior Not Expelled for Classroom Adult Video

A 22-year-old college senior who was placed on academic probation by the University of Hawaii-Manoa for circulating a video of himself masturbating in an empty classroom managed to escape being expelled by citing the school’s nondiscrimination policy.

Tim — “Speedo Student,” as he calls himself on his blog — calls his infamous XTube videos sexual art and says the university wasn’t able to expel him because sexual identity and sexual behavior are covered by the policy.

He says rumors he’d been expelled started after the school paper printed an article painting the video as “criminal, deviant and psychotic.” The paper has since issued a retraction.

Tim tells BUTT Magazine a number of teachers and students were supportive when rumors that he might be expelled began to circulate. He says some students even regard him as a “role model and an inspiration to others to be more open and tolerant.”

Tim, who identifies as a “gay, college twink” on his blog, filmed his first gay adult film last month. He says the DVD is due out in May.

It would seem unauthorized use of public property, trespassing or a charge along those lines would be appropriate. This is not about discriminating against him because he’s gay. It’s about unauthorized use of public or private property. The same would apply if the person was heterosexual. If he was in his private room it would be one thing but he was not. If not a charge of trespassing, they should present him with a fat rental bill, cleaning bill, use of electricity bill as well as a filming permit bill. This should not be acceptable or we’ll have college student wannabe opportunists shooting porn in public areas -- remember to watch where you sit and touch. Again, this is not about being homosexual. This is about his wrong business judgment and unauthorized use.

He was not caught with his pants down, where he could be cited for public indecency. He was distributing the video, which happened to be filmed on university property. I think he has more of an argument than what he claims. There is nothing illegal about distributing pornographic material as long as it is of consenting adults. No one commenting here has had sex on a beach, in an elevator, in the backseat of their car... etc.? What? You didn't film it so it was legal?

I've seen his blog, I've seen his video. Overlooking the obvious - a juvenile blog where he laments the big porn studios not having interest in him - he should be spending more time studying and taking advantage of his fortunate position to attend university. Not everyone has that opportunity. His video is amateurish and while I applaud him for displaying his fetish for speedos and spandex gear, last I checked this wasn't an available major in college. On first inspection, I thought he was a freshman. If he's indeed a senior, it's time to get a life...

Isn't college ironic? The president of Harvard had to resign for voicing his opinion about women not liking science, yet some perverted student gets to masturbate on a desk, film it, and other than media attention, he gets away with it. What the hell is wrong with higher education? They don't tolerate free speech but they tolerate public masturbation? That student is a pervert, he may call himself gay but what he did was perverted.

I'm sorry, he should have been expelled. This isn't a discrimination issue, and any gay man or lesbian who would have stood with him against the university would just be handing gasoline to the religious right to use against us. I like some illicit sex sometimes. Sex in a "public place" where you might get caught is certainly a turn on, but it's still against the rules. He was stupid, he got caught, there are consequences. End of story. I want equality, not special treatment.

Bobby, Florida is hardly a model for precedents. sex in a public park is not the same as being a sex offender. Diddling yourself in a park should not be on the same level as molesting a child. Florida probably also arrests people for erections too. If I saw the dean of a college screwing anything, I think I would be sick but wouldn't think they should be fired. I think it's just silly that he would be advertising his location. I also agree with Zachary, most of college is a complete waste of time. I teach anthropology courses to econ students who HAVE to take my class because it is on the curriculum.

Does this school seriously have NO guidelines about nudity, sexual behavior and bodily emissions in school? Heck, I'll go and shit and piss all over the place.
