Mass. Dems to Vote on Bisexual and Transgender Representation

Massachusetts democratic state committee members are encouraging a party convention vote to create seats on the committee for two bisexual and two transgender members.

The change would give bisexual and transgender people the same number of representatives as military veterans, gay, lesbian, elderly, youth and ethnic minority delegates.

According to The Boston Globe, many contend civil rights are not the most important issue facing the state.

"The leadership of the state Democratic Party has lost sight of what matters to working men and women, and as important as transgender rights are, bisexual rights are, what really matters today are jobs, the economy, and putting people back to work," said state senator Steven Baddour, a Democrat.

The change is currently the sole issue the committee will vote on at its June convention.

"I haven’t heard anything from anybody that they were opposed to it," said party executive director Stacey Monahan.

The effort has been spearheaded by the Bay State Stonewall Democrats.

I think this creates a good balance of interests but I also agree that they cannot afford the perception that they have lost sight of what’s most important to the average person. They cannot afford to not make efforts in those directions. They must have a better mix of priorities that include the economy, jobs, business, state government, a better life for all, as well as bringing everyone to the table. People cannot feel their needs are being ignored or overlooked. I think that goes for every state. I support their inclusion.
