Bishop Objects to Gay Marriage Class

Archbishop Myers (Diocese of Peoria) | Advocate.com

The governing board of Seton Hall University, the largest Catholic college in New Jersey, is reconsidering whether to allow a course on same-sex marriage this fall after Newark Archbishop John J. Myers said the class conflicts with Catholic teaching.

According to The Star-Ledger, Myers objected to the course for upperclassmen in a statement. Although he does not have the authority to cancel a class, he serves as chairman of the school’s board of trustees and leads the board of regents, which oversees academic issues.

"This proposed course seeks to promote as legitimate a train of thought that is contrary to what the Church teaches. As a result, the course is not in synch with Catholic teaching," said Myers in the statement reported by TheStar-Ledger. "Consequently, the board of trustees of Seton Hall have asked the board of regents to investigate the matter of this proposed course and to take whatever action is required under the law to protect the Catholicity of this university."

Larry Robinson, the vice provost, said the political science department and the dean approved the course because it was an objective examination of a public policy issue, not an advocacy course.

The course will be taught be W. King Mott, an openly gay, tenured associate professor of political science. In 2005, Mott was demoted from a position as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences after TheStar-Ledger published his letter saying the church scapegoats gay men for the priest sex abuse scandal.

If the photo in this article is of the objecting Priest, then I think I know what his problem is. My gaydar went right off on the guy in the photo. Obviously a closet case looking to hide his little "secret".

He should object to dark Catholic teaching instead, for that conflicts with the light of Jesus Christ.

"You old queen." That statement alone speaks volumes not only about you and your Catholic faith, but about the "nicey-nicey" church you're attempting, rather miserably I must say, to defend. And by the way, you're one of the few people defending this immoral, antiquated institution. How many queens like myself, at least according to you, are cruised by bears? Some of them are even muscle bears. It's happened to me. The garments these priests wear are in very good taste." LOL! I suppose you think Walter Mercado is one hot dude? Walter Mercado is butch compared to some of these sissy priests. And that includes Pope Benedict. He is most definitely effeminate and a sissy.

I went to Seton Hall in the late 70's...for, priestly formation. And you can probably guess that there were camps of guys signing allegiance to different priests in the formation program.. Some were having sex with each other. Could you really believe that? even though I am gay, and was gay then, and most people and the priests knew that I was gay, I was not sexually active. I could have been and it was easier then going to the Clubs. Speaking of Clubs I would ofter see priests of the Newark Archdiocese in the Clubs and bars in NJ and NY. we would even have conversations in those venues. So, same sex marriage never really mattered for many young men in priestly formation because they could have a relationship without all the "fuss." Gosh, I almost left out that some of the Bishops knew about this too! I never saw a Bishop in the Bars but I did see monsignors. I left formation, went to another Catholic College, then a public college, met a guy and had a great relationship for 13 years.

DAVLIN COURT...Did you honestly say?.. "I'm glad to hear that a catholic/Catholic institution is initiating a venue to this subject matter, and raising the controversy in a responsible manner". Initiating a venue....HA HA HA HA HA HA! Raising the controverysey in a responsible manner. LMAO!!!! What they are doing is coming up for air, thrashing about a drowning in a public pool of vehemence and justice! Tolkien once said" "So would the trapped wolf speak to the hounds, if he could. ...

to rl housman of Jonesboro Arkansas? Dear, I hope the rains haven't dulled your senses, and especially those damned twisters. As I grew up in Tulsa, I know how bad things can get. RE: your comments, I couldn't agree more. As a matter of fact I wish you or someone would suggest that to your local schools, including high schools, local colleges, etc. It might even be suitable for the church to take up that issue., although I doubt they would do that. Kudo's to you babe for that suggestion. love ya. (formerly from Will Rogers high school)

dear richard in Palm Springs. Honey, the heat has finally fried your brain. 'disassociated" really? tThere isn't anthing dis associated about the chur4ch. Everything was thought out completely ages ago. The guys that formed the church knew that women would have ruined everything. They would have divorced the priests, demanded that the church be given to them, and there would only be nuns running the church now. Not that I have anything against them, but nuns that I know are really tough, and mean. I doubt that you have ever gone to church, or even have a faith of your own. , from your comments. You are totally dis associated.

Zachary in Atlanta - you old queen. the garments these priests wear are in very good taste. Except for being very hot, they are very nice. I would also like to introduce you to some of those 'sissy' men you mention, and let them confront you face to face. Most of all our laws in the U.S. and around the world are based on Christian faith. After generations most of those old laws are becoming extinct and are being changed. Get a life honey, or just get layed. Seek out a priest and ask him to give you a good spanking.

I totally agree with Chris Sullivan. The entire Catholic Church is a farce with absolutely no redeeming religious and social values. Powerful and rich Catholics can have long-term marriages annulled. Wonderful! Encouraging Catholics to have large families is clearly not rational considering the finite resources on Earth. The church is run by old, sissy men wearing effeminate clothing. How could anybody be proud of such a disgusting and morally corrupt institution?
