FRC: DADT Repeal Will Increase Gay Rape

Spriggx390 (Screen grab) | Advocate.com

Rates of sexual assault among people of the same gender would skyrocket if gays are allowed in the military, according to Peter Sprigg, senior fellow for policy studies at the antigay Family Research Council.

Council staffers say they reviewed all the case synopses of 1,643 reports of sexual assault reported by the four branches of the military for fiscal 2009.

"Our startling finding was that over eight percent (8.2%) of all military sexual assault cases were homosexual in nature. This suggests that homosexuals in the military are about three times more likely to commit sexual assaults than heterosexuals," Sprigg wrote. He also said that many discharges under "don't ask, don't tell" were for sexual assaults, though the report does not disclose any percentages or figures.

Rape is about power and violence, never ever about sex to begin with. People who are "likely" to rape might just benefit from the discipline and regiment of military life. Those likely to rape are going to rape whether we let them into the military or not. I suggest that we address that problem but not blame it on whether or not we are being bigoted in the military.

These kinds of "studies" can only get published in The Journal of Irreproducible Results and have as much validity as the study "Teaching simple mazes to angels" (one of my favorites). It's like the "Truth swallowing Darwin" symbols, what Trruth? Obviously nothing that can supported with science, but then science is the work of the Devil as we all know.

Let the man talk. Unbeknownst to him he is doing gay men and women a wonderful service and furthering our cause by removing any doubt from intelligent people's minds that he is, in fact, stupid. He is also desperate for 'facts' to report such nonsense. We got them on the run, boys and girls!!!!

Re: the question about math, the reason they are saying that gays are three times as likely as straights, to rape people, is because they are assuming that gays are only 3 percent of the military population, but commit 8 percent of the rapes. Straights are supposedly 97 percent of the military population, but commit 92 percent of the rapes. If this were accurate, and the same-sex rapes were being committed by gay soldiers, and gays were only 3 percent of the military, they would have a statistical point. The questions they are not asking are: 1) What percentage of people in the U.S. are actually gay? According to the Williams Institute at the UCLA school of Law, it's either 5 percent or 10 percent (one in 20 or one in 10), not 3 percent. (One difficulty in measuring the percentage who are gay is the question of how being "gay" is defined; another is that people still often keep their orientation a secret). 1) What percentage of soldiers are gay? There's no way of knowing, partly because of Don't Ask Don't Tell. The 3 percent figure is unverifiable. 2) A more important question is, when a man is raped in the military, who is doing the raping? According to many accounts, the victims of gay rape in the military are often men who are perceived to be gay, and the rapists are men who perceive themselves to be straight. Rape in such cases is a "punishment" for being gay, or for gay behavior, inflicted on gay men by ostensibly straight soldiers. I'm sure some sexual abuse of men in the military, by other men, is done by gays, or by men considering themselves straight but with hidden gay leanings. But saying that the percentage of gay rapists is greater than the percentage of straight rapists is misleading. It's making numerous assumptions that can't be verified.

How does this jerk account for the blackmail for sexual favors by straight soldiers in exchange for NOT turning in a gay or lesbian under DADT? He doesn't.

They should really think about talking to all those women who have been raped by all those men. Big fat fucking FAIL on behalf of FRC (not like that's any surprise)!

Their math is based on their absurd claim that "Homosexual activist groups themselves have admitted that less than three percent of Americans are homosexual or bisexual". (I like the "admitted" part). Obviously such a claim is baseless and unsurprisingly unreferenced and it clearly makes any subsequent statement meaningless. I don't think this "study" is even worth reporting on...

Hate doesn't need a logical path, it mows down reason and celebrates by burning the lawn. Fundamentalist Religious Zealots are America's Taliban! The similarities between the two are remarkable.

Also, if 8% of rape being same sex is a reason to bar homosexuals from the military, what about 92% of rape being opposite sex? oh....I GET IT NOW. THEY'RE PEACEMAKERS! they don't want ANYBODY to fight in the military. well will you look at that. huh.
