Gay Friends Named Prom King and Queen

A high school in Hudson, New York took a leap forward Saturday by naming two gay best friends, Charlie Ferrusi and Timmy Howard, prom king and queen.

According to the Register-Star, students at Hudson High School overwhelmingly approved the idea, and school officials and their parents supported their decision to run.

“By prom night the overwhelming majority of students cast their votes in the open ballot race,” reported the Register-Star. “They won by such a wide margin the school didn’t crown any runners up.”

Ferrusi and Howard said the toughest part of the experience was deciding who would be king and who would be queen. Based on their research, the young men believe they are the first such pair to be recognized.

The entire community of this school - teachers, parents, studends, faculty - are to be congratulated. It cannot be underestimated how important the message they are sending out is - that your sexuality is accepted. As an gay man living in Australia, we often hear and read about the conservative side of America. Articles like this renew my faith in the next generation.

Good for the students at Hudson High! I think it's great, although I agree two prom Kings would have been nice. As for Phil...1950 is calling and THEY think you are a bit behind in the times. Phil clearly was not popular in High School.

"Why the complaints? I thought in America today it was our sacred, constitutional right to vote on all things gay, and the majority rules. Right? Or was an unelected, activist principal supposed to overturn this decision? " Quote The right for the majority to take away rights of a minority. Reminds me of slavery and segregation, the hatred of the Jews, and yes even the hatred of the catholic by protestants. Thats what the constitution is about - which says "equal justice under law" Ultimately there will be gay marriage everywhere in the USA, or there will be no legal marriage at all. Your churches are free to perform whatever ceremony they want to perform, but sorry - no joint income tax, no automatic parental rights for newborn children, no social security sharing, no riding on your 'partners' medical insurance. Or maybe no marriage rights under the law once all your kids are 18, or if you don't have at least one kid after a reasonable time. Is that what you want?

To joyful - actually, dogs do do what man does. And so do a lot of other animals. I grew up on a farm and I saw dogs doing it. And cattle doing it. Hell, I even saw a female dog humping a female chicken! But I do agree with you about one thing though - expanding our definitions of words to include things the words (and maybe even God Himself) to mean things they were never supposed to mean. I would like to expand the word "asshole" to include "joyful."

"Now just because some people want to do something or be something, we all have to be subject to it" Isn't that exactly what you're doing, Joyful? Force your religion down everybody's throat? God and nature will forever defy the narrow little boundaries you place on them. Charlie Ferrusi and Timmy Howard are two less gay kids that will commit suicide, become homeless or self-destruct from low self-esteem because of people like you and Phil. I commend them and the student body of Hudson High School. Way to go, kids!

That is so cool! I won Home Coming King this year, but would have given anything to be queen, something about the school policy having only allowing girls on the Queen ballot. Anyways, it's really spectacular to see people coming around by allowing these boys to be who they are, openly and unabashedly. @Phil: like most people are wondering, why even come to this website if you're going to post ridiculous comments? This is a website for gay news, if you don't like gays, why come to a gay news website?

Joyful, please don't say we are all going to hell that scares me, I only want fun loving people to accompany me to the great furnace in the center of the earth. I work very hard to make sure that there is no chance I will be stuck in heaven with all the crying bible thumpers and the pope, Fred phelps and Jerry Falwell etc... I want to be with all my gay friends and family for eternity!

Websters dictionary defines queen as " a female monarch". In order to be a female anything you would need female organs. Are we redefining the word queen also? Why do we continue to pretend that words do not mean what they are and we can change things to go against nature and GOD without consequences. Now just because some people want to do something or be something, we all have to be subject to it. This is not cute and we are going to hell in a handbasket. Phil good job in being true to nature. Dogs won't do what man sometimes does.
