Texas GOP: Performing Gay Ceremonies Should Be Felony

TEXAS FLAG X390 (PHOTOS.COM) | ADVOCATE.COM

Most would not expect the Texas GOP platform to be liberal, but many might be surprised that their agenda includes charging people who perform same-sex marriage ceremonies with a felony.

The Republican Party of the Lone Star State has released its platform, and it takes a hard line on illegal immigrants, gay people, and abortion. Aside from making the officiating of gay ceremonies a serious crime, Texas Republicans hope to repeal the health care bill, make English the official language of the United States, urge the state legislature to require voter identification (ostensibly at polls), ban stem-cell research, and require sonograms for women seeking abortions.

Instead of expanding their bank accounts they should try something new and different...such as expanding their MINDS (or what passes for minds) and grow as individuals. GOP HERE IS A THOUGHT OF THE DAY: IF ALL OF US WERE THE SAME WOULDN'T THE WORLD BE A BORING PLACE???? Think about it and have a new experience, accept others for who and what they are. I just hope to h#ll you don't hate overweight people either but with your thinking on the stone age and your minds being closed like steel traps I wouldn't doubt it. You are no better the Hitler, or the KKK, any other supremancy group, the only difference with you is that YOU can hide under the political banner and spread your hatred!

These people are crazy. I'm Texan and proud of it! I HATE the fact that Texas gets this rap of being against anything liberal. It's so frustrating. I promise you, most Texans are NOT like this.

I really hate the anti-Texas comments made on this site. The article is about some GOP extremist in Texas not the real people. These right-wing nut jobs exist in every state not just Texas. Even San Francisco has a few homophobes...... just not a gay mayor. Remember: Every time the GOP comes out with these ridiculous announcements it makes them less and less appealing to mainstream voters and in the end helps the cause of gay rights. Just stop with the Texas bashing.

What a silly state! Half the GOP officials are divorced, yet want straight marriage. They claims to be fiscally conservative, yet Texas has an enormous deficit. Such a dichotomy

Most of the Republican Party is out of touch wih reality - making it the perfect partner for organized religion. As for what should be a "felony" - gross ignorance, such as on display here by the TX GOP - would certainly seem to qualify... if we're going down that stupid logic path at all.

The GOP party here in Texas is back by the Southern Baptist convention, who in my opion are just as bad, if not worse, than the Mormon Church leaders in Utah. (I'm a "recovering" Southern Baptist, who has since seent the light) As long as Texas continues to mix church and politics, the GLBTQ community has a snowballs chance in hell of getting any rights on the STATE level. We need FEDERAl protections NOW !!!
