Cynthia Nixon Cast in The Big C

CYNTHIA NIXON 201005 X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Showtime’s upcoming show The Big C is set to welcome out actress Cynthia Nixon to the set. The new series focuses on an unlikely topic for a comedy: cancer.

Laura Linney plays Cathy, a subdued schoolteacher whose outlook changes after being diagnosed with cancer. Over a four-episode arc, Nixon will portray Rebecca, Cathy’s past college roommate who brings a little welcome chaos into her life.

Other cast members include Oliver Platt, Oscar-nominated Gabourey Sidibe, Brian Cox, and Idris Elba.

The Big C is set to premiere August 16 on Showtime.
