Pelosi Calls S.F. Pride “40 and Fabulous”

House speaker Nancy Pelosi has recorded remarks for San Francisco's 40th gay pride celebration and parade this weekend, calling it “40 and fabulous.” In the video, which will be shown on Sunday at Pride's Main Stage, Pelosi also says, “We will not stop working until we pass an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act. This has been a priority of mine for nearly two decades, and your continued advocacy is essential to our success. We must also end discrimination as it relates to the right to marry. We will continue to fight until all loving couples can get married.”

"Let us attack those who fight from behind the giant closet door to limit our rights, not the few who take the unpopular stance to advance them." But the people that are being attacked are other gay people who really want to change things for the better, and that includes starting from within. We do the same thing every election cycle, we support people like Pelosi and we get nowhere. We do not need to convince these frauds, the people that we need to convince is by all means the voting public, but like you observe there is this unpopularity that foreshadows gay people because most gay activists DO NOT advocate for gay people, but rather an ideology, an extreme left one to be precised. That is why we hang out with old bags Pelosi instead of doing the actual hard work of convincing people. They support other things like free citizenship to illegal aliens and undermine the rule of law (http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2010/06/01/HRC_Fights_Arizona_Immigration_Law/).

@pepa- Of course our allies are fodor, guess what? being gay is not the most popular thing in this country-or have you not been paying attention. ANY and I mean ANY support offered to us especially by those elected officals who are gay ( I live in Barney Franks district and proudly vote for him) should be commended. Let us attack those who fight from behind the giant closet door to limit our rights, not the few who take the unpopular stance to advance them. I agree more should be done we have come a long way in the last ten of fifteen years.

BTW here is the article that I mentioned. This is the great Queen Mother Pelosi at her best, give me a fucking break. http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2009/12/17/Pelosi_to_Back_off_Controversial_Issues_in_2010/

Once again, you all adore the queen mother, that is fine and dandy; but SHE is the speaker of the house, and if I am not mistaken SHE sets the agenda. So if SHE wanted to, ENDA, an ACTUAL DADT repeal would have been a reality, and why not add gays to the civil rights laws? I do recall a nice Advocate article not that long ago that mentioned Pelosi as saying that "controversial" issues should be delayed if not not dealt with because of the Dems debauchery on the health care "reform" (or more appropriate health insurance corporations bailout). Pelosi is an obvious fake, that is why some of you have your panties in a twist because you refuse to prove that SHE has ever pushed anything in congress that can demonstrably elevate the status of the gay community. Because when all is said and done, after she loses to the GOP freaks and she goes back into the shadows of the back bench where she came from, after I finish masturbating at least I will have something to show for. Cheers.

The positive impact that straight people of significance can have on the sense of pride we all should have cannot be underestimated. When I was in the process of coming out I attended a Pride Concert where Tina Turner performed and later went to the SF Pride Parade where Pelosi and Boxer rode. To my dying day I shall always be thankful for these women and their support.

What kind of crazy, ridiculous people are reading advocate.com? Nancy Pelosi is a leader who believes in everyone, regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation or gender, has a right to equal rights and responsibilities under the law. I applaud her efforts. She is an incredible person and leader! Without her, President Obama would not have had the legislative victories that he needed especially healthcare reform and an end to DADT. Some people are never happy!

What a pile of horse manure. We are not your community, that would be the right-wing bigots whom you serve. Most of the lgbt community appreciates Pelosi's support.

Gay pride is now officially ruined. What you people need to understand is when these elitists touch anything it turns to mush. Obama, Barney Frank, the Queen Mother Pelosi,... The majority of Americans are at odds with these people and why and please tell me why we hang out with these people. This is one political wager I am not willing to risk the gains of the community with.

I appreciate that Pelosi is clear about her support for our rights. And while Obama recently left ENDA out, Pelosi included it: “As for ENDA, we will not stop working until we pass an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act. This has been a priority of mine for nearly two decades, and your continued advocacy is essential to our success.” At the same time, I believe that more can be done to pass ENDA quickly. The Hate Crimes Act included provisions that appealed to a wide range of people, and it passed easily. The same can be done with ENDA. For example, it could prohibit workplace harassment on the basis of race, nationality, and all the other categories included in the Civil Rights Act. This isn't explicitly done in existing law, and it could get a lot more groups on board.
