Tying the Knot After Six Decades

After a 60-year romance, a gay couple in their 80s tied the knot in Washington, D.C., June 20.

Henry Schalizki and Bob Davis exchanged their vows at the J. W. Marriott in Washington in front of 60 friends and family members, according to The Washington Post. The couple reveals that while Schalizki immediately set his sights on a wedding after the District of Columbia enacted marriage equality, Davis was not as enthusiastic.

"We're accepted as two human beings, always as a couple. I said, 'I don't see any reason for it,'" Davis said. "Besides that, Vera Wang will never make a gown for me to wear."

It's nice to stop and take some time out from our busy days to read stories like this. It warms our hearts to hear their story and it shows us just what we have accomplished so far. But it also reminds us of the need to continue fighting for equality until every homosexual person on the planet has the right to do what Henry and Bob just did, marry their life partner. And to Harry and Bob themselves, thank you for being an amazing example of what love really is. I hope you have another 60 years together, congratulations :)

Congratulations! It's so nice to see two handsome men still so in love after so many years. May you share many years of continued happiness! Also, a thank you for what must have been very challenging times, all gay people owe you a debt of gratitude for the suffering you must have endured. I am glad you were able to celebrate your love legally and in front of family and friends, I imagine not something you would have thought possible.
