Woman Sues D.C. Church Over Gay Marriage

CNN’s Soledad O’Brien brings the story of Yvonne Moore, who sued Covenant Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., over its support for marriage equality.

Moore, a parishioner for 37 years, sued to reclaim a portion of her weekly donations, which she estimates totaled nearly $250,000. She attended a commitment ceremony at the church in 2007, before same-sex marriage became legal in the district, and said she found it “totally disgusting.”

Moore has dropped her lawsuit and left the church. Watch the segment from CNN.

The following questions need to be answered by her (and anyone else who this effects in any way, shape, fashion or form). Are you a voting member of said group/congregation? Did a majority of said members, and or elected board, as defined by any 'laws/statutes/agreements', vote to use the funds in any way? Did you contribute your funds VOLUNTARILY? The answers to these basic questions should have been researched, discussed and approved BEFORE you took your stand. Your lack of foresight, reasoning process, and logic, have proved evidence to the contrary. As The Supreme Diety is held to be above unequal 'judgement' of humankind, you must account for your own successes and abilities, and any inadequacies and faliures in your formulations of discrimination and prejudice. Treat others as you yourself would be treated, and these blessings and goodwill shall flow from within, let thy cup runneth over.

"Pepa is an idiot, everyone disregard him. He's from Arizona and you know how they are there." Haha, got anything better? Maybe an actual counter-argument to be exact. So I guess all the gays from Arizona are what? Evil? I think you were one of the chimps on here that advocated a boycott against my state so that gay and latino business owners could suffer. You are a lame, selfish person without any dignity whatsoever. You clearly have a complete disregard for intellectual debate and in the most extreme way for the modern American English language. What you need is an education at the most, because calling me or anybody else an idiot is a cheapo cop-out, which tells me a lot about your lifestyle, a person who is careless about ideas, and only cares about his own little fantasy world. Your statement says more about you than it does about me. But thanks for trying though.

Thank you for bringing that up Hilly. It is true that a group can suffer a trauma with the information recorded in history and in the social structure of the following society, however, it is not the case that the people are able to automatically know the truth of their plights. The fact of the matter is that not every person is privy to recorded history, and that information is not passed to the minds of all children magically as though everyone is omniscient to all histories. The truth is that many people are ignorant of the reasons behind their socio-economic status as well as the continued views set upon their peoples. Unless those people go out in search of this information, they remain ignorant and have no clue as to their own histories or have propagated emotions down the line. Even with the histories read and understood, researchers of history will never be able to feel fully the emotions felt by the initial groups of people who suffered at the hands of their oppressors.

Ok does anyone else think it odd that she's suing over a ceremony that took place three years ago? And is upset by a commitment ceremony that she actually made a point of going to? why not just not go? Something tells me there's more to this, maybe she's just wanting some money back from the church or has some other beef with them.

Maybe we should sue this black woman for being ignorant of the fact that her Lord made gay people and her intolerance which apparently her Church forgot to teach her. Ignorance is curable.

Ya know, I feel really sorry for the oldsters of the world. Today there or maybe through the technology they are exposed to so much they have been blind to. Sure there were gay people when they were younger but it was just something not talked about or displayed. Now we are everywhere!!! Thank God. We are a nation of proud LBGT folks. Ask any person under the age of 18 how many gay people they know and does it "bother" them. The answer is a lot and who gives a shit!!! The only thing I can see that offends so many people is durning Pride times when we have ( I know this is going to piss some people off) the most flaming of flame that could be (a fire extinguisher couldn't put them out flame) representing us as a whole (no pun intended) that's what they see. Not the everyday people tending to their families, working hard for what they have or want... Our day is coming, look we even have a month now, I know we had one before but nobody bothered. Let's just stop the bullshit.

What's disgusting is her attitude towards same sex relationships. I will never understand why some people think that God is a gay bashing bigot who votes Republican. I not religious, but if there is a God or Goddess, I doubt he or she is a hate mongering jerk who wants to harm people.

James, when you said "There is no magical group knowledge that is passed through the minds of every single black person to know about the racism that has been propogated [sic] over time upon that race," you are wrong. When a group suffers a trauma, such as slavery, or genocide, or like the Jewish suffered in Europe in WWII, that trauma is passed down for many, many generations. This is easily sourced, check it out, it explains many of our social problems, from India to Africa to the United States.
