Pride Flies High in Seattle

Space Needle x390 (pick up) I Advocate.com

For the first time, a rainbow flag is flying on top of Seattle’s Space Needle in recognition of gay pride in the city.

SeattlePI.com’s Joe Mirabella was among the group of people who climbed to the top of the iconic tower on Friday to help raise the flag.

“The Space Needle attracts millions of visitors a year and is a privately owned business,” Mirabella wrote. “It is an amazing sign of progress that an institution like the Space Needle is ready to celebrate with our community this weekend. I am proud of Seattle. I am proud of my community.”

I got back from Seattle today. What an amazing weekend catching up with a friend and meeting new ones. This was my first Pride weekend anywhere. It was amazing to be around a positive atmosphere. I came back home to Kansas ready to take on my closed minded state!

We just returned from Seattle Pride, and it was a blast! I even got to ride on one of the floats. I was so energized by the thousands of people lining the streets. They were all so juiced up and excited! It was a thrill to see the Pride parade from a float. And there were thousands of people at Seattle Center after the parade. When they moved the Pride celebration from Capitol Hill to downtown a few years ago, I was a little skeptical. But this celebration has grown so much in the past 10 years. They couldn't fit it into the park up on the hill. I had the impression that all of Seattle, except perhaps Tammy, were smiling and celebrating this past week, because Pride was in town. The GLBT community should be proud that PRIDE has become one of the most fun events of the year, with so many people, gay and straight, taking part. I feel sorry for people like Tammy who see a need to repent 365 days of the year. Her husband and kids know she is a bitch, difficult to live with.

Aliens flew to Earth in this spaceship from a distant planet and have planned to return soon. The coneheaded strangers wanted me to go with them, but I declined. Turns out they're republicans.

Tammy said,"A sqare(sic) peg doesn't fit in a round hole..." I am not sure what a sqare peg is, but I'm going to take a chance and assume Tammy meant square peg. And that makes me wonder what Tammy has been sticking in her round holes. Now I love penises and I love round holes to stick my penis in. I have never seen a square one. Seems to me that Tammy makes a very good case for the proposition that religion causes STUPIDITY.

Judy, It was so kind of you to take a break from picketing abortion clinics-and of course your sheet sewing to make that thoughtful comment. I suggest you take a basic reading and writing class so that you can complete a written thought. Best Wishes, See you in Hell! Daniel

Keep your sick version of god to yourself. Or I'll be glad to send you to Afghanistan, where you will be the shoe on the other foot. Denigrated, denied of your humanity, used for sex and male pleasure only And as a christian, when they are through with you, they will do the world a service with an AK47. People who are just as crazy as you are against gays btw. Or are you here because of your secret desires and the conflict in your mind between your sick version of christainity and your emotions. Most of the time, people like you are exactly that - self haters throwing out their hate on others in a desperate attempt to hide who they are.

To Tammy, from monroe: The penis exists to shoot semen into the vagina for the single purpose of creating another human being. Other than that task, you won't find citations in the Bible about having a jolly good time with the two rubbing together. So as far as your apparent heterosexuality is concerned, you are not supposed to be having joyous orgasms for their own sake. Now - think about all the sin you heterosexuals have been committing since the dawn of time. Shame on you! To Judy reamer, from Stevens point: You are obviously not a Christian, because if you were you would have read all the Gospels from cover to cover - and if you had, you would know that Jesus Christ never once said a single word about homosexuality. And you know he did a lot of lecturing and spiritual guiding about a lot of topics. But when it came to homos? All quiet on the home front. Why don't you follow Jesus' guidance and respect his example? You might discover that there is a Heaven after all.

A sqare peg doesn't fit in a round hole....Even if you have no belief in God-- it makes sense that there is a penis and vagina for a reason. Who we are is MORE than just a feeling....it's about doing the right thing with a clear conscience. It's just like anything else that goes against nature's law, regardless of how you feel or percieve it. If we based everything on how we "feel about it" --would that be the right basis for how to make a decision? "Well I FEEL like it's who I am"....I could say "Well I feel like heroine takes my pain away and makes me feel better therefore it should be legalized"....I see the fall out from this comment. My point is that it's more than a feeling. The same as any other sin-- if it goes against the laws of God/nature (penis in vagina) then it doesn't flow with the ying and yang. Love the person, always love the person, but just like any other counter intuitive behavior-- don't love the poor choice. If you can't see this then your'e wearing blinders.

Wow! I will be checking this out to day as I walk to the parade with my friend who just moved here from HI and has never been to a Pride event. What a great welcome for him. He will love it.

One has to wonder why someone like Judy from Stevens Point would be on a site like advocate.com in the first place. Judy, your opinion is your right (assuming you're for real and not just somebody stirring up the pot here) but one wonders out of all the possible things for you to be doing in the world, all the things that God's love in your life could be compelling you to do, you've chosen to surf advocate.com and post a comment that seeing the pride flag flying from the top of the space needle is sick. Of all the things God is asking you to do to make this world a better place and to spread God's love, this is what you've chosen? Ask yourself why that is. Feel free to share it here if you'd like.
