Gay Republicans Respond to Texas GOP Platform

The Dallas chapter of Log Cabin Republicans issued a statement on the recently adopted and virulently antigay platform of the Texas GOP.

The platform calls for gay sex to be criminalized and the performing of gay marriages to be made a felony, and refers to homosexuality as a practice that "tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases."

Rob Schlein, president of the Log Cabin Republicans Dallas chapter, issued a statement late Tuesday:

"Recent attention has been given to the Republican Party of Texas and what many consider are the antigay planks in its 2010 Platform. Although these planks are not new, the attention is. From the Dallas Voice to bloggers all over the nation, Republicans are being painted as antigay and intolerant.

"At the Texas Republican Party State Convention we warned our fellow delegates of the consequences of including extremist language in the party platform regarding gay and lesbian Texans. For years, Log Cabin Republicans (a group representing gay, lesbian and like minded Republicans) has submitted resolutions to remove the extremist language at the precinct and state senatorial convention levels. Emails were also sent to every member of the state platform committee imploring them to either remove the passages or reword them, and Log Cabin Republicans Dallas offered suggested substitute language. Those resolutions and emails were ignored by the Platform Committee at the state convention.

"Language such as, 'We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders,' and language equating gay parents with child molesters and abusive parents is obviously not supported by the majority of Texans, rank and file Republicans or even people of faith. The GOP also wants to make it illegal for companies to give insurance benefits to partners in gay unions. So would they rather a seriously ill gay person use taxpayer resources at the county charity hospital, or just die in the streets?

Gay Republicans=Jews for Hitler Texas really should secede. I'd be the first to vote FOR it. The collective IQ of the rest of America would go up at least 8-10 points.

The gays in America are just too weak/soft. They are too comfy with what they have. Oh it's ok if they just step all over my rights. They "the bigots" out there are fighting their tooth and nail to block gay people to get their rights and what do gays American do?NOTHING...Just sit back and whine and whine....That's not going to change anything...Fight back, unite as one from coast to coast and fight back with all you have....Nothing is going to happen if you just sit back and whine all the time and no actions...The movie "Gay War" should be your inspiration. Trust me they "the Bigots" will not let up not even a minute....You need to sacrifice big to gain a right otherwise you gain nothing and wasting time....

What is wrong with these gay Republicans in Texas? The Texas Republican Party wants gay Republicans as much as the Germans wanted Jewish Nazis during the Hitler era. Can't you tell when you are being spat upon? For gays to vote Republican in Texas would be like the Jews voting for Nazi candidates in Germany!

The Log Cabin republicans are a bunch of hypocrites. I hope whatever the republican platforms anti-gay plank holds, rains down like a hailstorm upon them. What you sow, so shall you reap. They refuse to see the truth before their eyes, so let the lies and hate be what blinds them.

OK, so if we all care so much to write all these comments CAN WE PLEASE START TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. They say their e-mails were IGNORED by the GOP. Well, maybe they wouldn't be if we could convince them to get the Log Cabin to vote democrat or NOT vote this year b/c of how RIDICULOUS this platform is..... why vote for someone who thinks you are a criminal and given the chance will arrest you!! maybe the lower taxes will help them afford the court fees from being arrested for being themselves (gay). I LOOKED THEM UP, NOW LET'S SPEAK UP, I DID!!!!! Press Secretary- Charles@CharlesTMoran.net, L.C. Director (DC Office)- cberle@logcabin.org, L.C. Human Resources- admin@logcabin.org.
