Trans Candidate Novotny Talks Kern, Gender With NYT

Brittany Novotny X390 (OUTPROFESSIONALS) | ADVOCATE.COM

Brittany Novotny, a transgender woman running for office, says her gender will not be an issue in her candidacy for the Oklahoma Legislature. Novotny, whose gender was addressed in a New York Times article, says her commitment to service should be the most important factor to voters.

"...I want to be a representative, and I don’t want to let the fact that I went through that part of my life affect that I am right for the job," Novotny said in the Times article.

Novotny will face anti-gay incumbent Sally Kern, who is known for saying gay people are worse than terrorists.

@refuting the nonesense, Wow you are absolutely right and I completely appologize. They do look a little similar though huh? lol Anyhow I guess I paid more attention to a quick glance at the picture rather than the name and spoke way too quickly. My bad. Sorry about that Ms. Novotny! Best of luck to ya!

Not everyone in Oklahoma bashes gays whenever they get a chance. Please don't judge an entire state by the not-so-silent majority. Yes, there are a lot of screwed up politics here in OK, but there are some good parts too. The City of Tulsa recently enacted hiring protections for GLB folks (sadly, gender identity wasn't included), and Tulsa also houses one of the largest GLBT community centers in the nation. Sally Kern is so far off the deep end I think she's in another pool... and that may be enough to help Ms. Novotny get elected. If not, at least she put herself out there to try and make a difference in her community.

Shane, Both women are Transsexuals not Transvestites. There is a huge difference.

Nonesense, the transvestite you are referring to is Donna Milo from Florida, not this one from Oklahoma. Go to Donna Milos page and join, show her what you think there. I was the only one there speaking out against her, finally I just gave up and decided Florida deserves her. As for this woman, I wish her luck, Saly Kern is an evil bitch that needs to go to hell already.

@Liam, she is awake and she is facing reality, that is why she is taking the stance she has taken. Even if she loses (which is still likely), she will have given Sally a run for her money and paved the way for the next candidate that comes around in 2 years to bring Kern down.

@Nonesense, maybe you should pay closer attention and actually try reading everything or even most of it before you post. It's ironic you've chosen Nonesense as your handle. No doubt you being from Florida, you are confusing the anti-marriage trans candidate from your state with this one and can't even conceive of other candidates also running as openly trans besides the one you know of, Donna Milo, who I'm almost positive you're confusing with Brittany.

She needs to wake up and face reality. She's running for office OKLAHOMA not in Vermont, Oregon, or New York. Oklahoma is a very right wing christian red neck state that proudly bashes the GLBT community every time an opportunity presents itself. If she wins it will be a miracle.

Screw her. She is against marriage rights for her own community. It's LGB"T" not LGB.
