Florida A.G. Was Confident in Rekers

Florida attorney general Bill McCollum said he was confident when he hired antigay George Rekers as an expert in arguing for the state's law banning gay parents from adopting children.

The Republican gubernatorial candidate said he chose Rekers as an expert witness in the state supreme court case over the ban's constitutionality because it is difficult to find other experts willing to speak out against gay rights while teaching at a university.

Rekers has dedicated his career to antigay research, and has provided several states, like Florida and Arkansas, expert testimony in lawsuits and legislative hearings to institute discriminatory laws. However, Rekers was caught traveling with a young man named Jo-Vanni Roman or "Lucien" he hired from Rentboy.com in May. Rekers claimed Roman was hired to handle his luggage for the European expedition.

"Knowing what I know now, I would have never had hired him," he told reporters. "Back then I thought it was the most appropriate thing to do."

McCollum made a Faustian bargain and it bit him in the ass; when his alleged 'expert' was debunked! Serves the bigot right! Florida should get rid of him.

I agree with Daniel from Boston, the AG is an ASS. He should step down from office. I can't believe that there are still people in this country who like that that! And he wants to be governor, holy crap!!! It just makes me so mad that I have to pay taxes to support these dim witted, politicians who continue to push discrimination against gays.

GOOD FOR YOU BILL! Way to enforce the law!! (which some of it based on bigotry). I would like to know, do I have the right, as an AMERICAN, to NOT BELIEVE IN "THE BIBLE"? Do I have to believe in it? Then why do I have to follow laws that people made, voted on, passed in congress that are BASED ON THEIR PERSONAL BELIEFS, THAT ARE BASED FROM "THE BIBLE"? I do not believe that from the beginning of time or when "the bible" was first being "created" that ALL THE AUTHORS and especially, ALL THE ONES WHO INTERPRETED the bible OR RULERS/KINGS that had the bible INTERPRETED did not have THEIR OWN AGENDAs. Are we saying that this was the language that their god of hate spoke to Moses, Paul, ...that EVERY single word is in that book called the bible. NOTHING WAS CHANGED? I mean this is IT...FROM their god of hate to "paper? And this is what people base their beliefs in? Why do we have different kinds of churches or religions? Shouldn't everyone get the same interpretation from the same words

The AG is an ass. If you don't know who your "expert" witness' is than you haven't done your homework, which makes you unfit to serve.

"It is difficult to find other experts willing to speak out against gay rights while teaching at a university." Could it be, perhaps, because to teach at a University you REALLY have to be an expert, ans they disaggree with your stupid, bigoted view?

Since this buffoon approaches his 'research' with a decided upon outcome, his 'work' is simply to be dismissed. This is against all standards of scientific investigation. Unfortunately many to whom he is available simply buy the package because some other buffoon(s) call him an 'expert.'

Rekers is well beyond a hypocrite, he has sold his soul to the devil. It's times like this it would be nice to believe in hell so I could kick his ass when I see him there!

This guy isn't interested in getting to anything anyone would call truth. He just wants to prove a point, and to do that he will find the nearest putz with an opinion to match his own. Does anyone think he learned anything from this. Probably not, except perhaps to find a putz with better credentials.
