Mitrice Possibly Alive in Vegas

MITRICE RICHARDSON 3 X390 (COURTESY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Mitrice Richarson, who vanished nearly a year ago after a Malibu Sheriff's station released her in the middle of the night, might be alive and living in Las Vegas.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore says the claim is "not definitive," but L.A. investigators plan to hold a joint press conference with Las Vegas authorities on Thursday to announce a joint search, and to urge her to contact them, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Whitmore stressed that if she came out, she would not be in trouble, nor would she be arrested.

Richardson's parents, family, and girlfriend have all fronted efforts to find her since she was last seen leaving the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in the early hours of Sept. 17, 2009. She had been arrested for not paying a dinner bill at Geoffrey's Restaurant, where witnesses say she had been acting erratically.

A few hours after being released, a nearby Malibu resident made a call to police after seeing her wandering aimlessly and speaking to herself.

Richardson, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, was released from the station in the predawn hours in an area she was unfamiliar with, lacking transportation, a cell phone, or money.

I'm glad that a few sensible people have posted worthwhile comments. This is a human being we are talking about here. Her family has been worried about her and I find it troubling that she was allowed to wander out of a police station with no transportation in the middle of the night. They could have at least offered her a ride home or called her family for her. I do hope that she is OK.

Ignorant commenters are showing their true (ugly) colors again. Nothing you say is adding to intelligent discourse. making assumpions, convicting the woman without knowing the facts. You remind me of the worst kind of survivor - the one who pulls the ladder up after himself after you've made it to a place of "normalcy" or serenity. You don't give a damn who else stays behind. For shame. If the woman were diagnosed with bi-polar, she needs help. The Police may be at fault for releasing her in that condition with no money, cell phone, or knowledge of where she was. Cruel, heartless, inhuman and yes, maybe homophobic. Could you imagine the liability if she'd been released in that state and been killed? Was it because the woman was a lesbian, implying that the police neglected their duty to protect a potential emotionally disturbed woman diagnosed with bipolar disorder only because she was a worthless lesbian? Shame on commentors for making assumptions.

"Think" = "troll" in case psy's post needed to be translated so as to avoid any more confusion. It never ceases to amaze me how the most trivial news articles produce the most intense bickering.

Sure, "Jonathan" and "Psy". Let's all be concerned about a restaurant's being "ripped off" but not be concerned that the arresting authority not only released her from jail but released her basically in the middle of nowhere. Is it very common for someone to be arrested for any sort of theft and then be released WITHOUT someone coming to post bail? It sounds to me as though the restaurant decided to drop (or at least, not press) charges, which led to Mitrice's being released WITHOUT POSTING BAIL.

Apparently, all the people with disabling mental illness are not diagnosed and/or in treatment, and the two below are allowed internet access as well. I pray you get the help you need.

Everyone is worried about this woman after she robbed a restaurant and she's having the time of her life in Las Vegas. Put this woman in prison now! Throw her in a men's prison. That ought to straighten her out some.
