One Mom’s Boycott of Target

Target lady x390

Randi Reitan took it upon herself to show Target Corp. that gay and pro-gay consumers will no longer be shopping in Target stores. Or at least she hopes to start the trend through example.

In the following video Reitan purchases over $200 worth of merchandise — including items for her son, who is gay, and her grandchildren, who love and support him. She then returns the items and explains to the manager why they wouldn’t want the products, knowing they were purchased from a store that supports hate to the tune of a $150,000 donation to MN Porward, a political organization endorsing Minnesota’s antigay Republican candidate for governor, Tom Emmer.

Perhaps there is a another tactic to demonstrate to Target how important the LGBT dollar is to there bottom line. Consider a BUY-cott that targets Target. On a designated day, week or weekend every LGBT person makes a single purchase at a Target store and on the next day, week or weekend they return that same item. Showing corporations your purchasing power and how it can be withheld would be demonstrated in a proactive way. Target won't notice a boycott unless they see the buying power of the LGBT community. Having the dollars roll in one day and out the next might make them take notice. I have cancelled my Target credit card just in case.

The way that the gay community is reacting to this is making me want to stop being homosexual. What store can I give my homosexuality back to??

Well then, Walmart executives are consistent in their policies, and Target's are hypocrites...I still prefer to give my money to the honest corporation, rather than the one who is a hypocrite...I will not be shopping Target...Has it occurred to those defending Target that perhaps they have had an "overhaul" of their corporate officers, and this donation is just the first step..? Perhaps those "partner benefits" will be next to go, once open enrollment, and the opportunity to change the benefits available presents itself...There is currently nothing in place that says they can't rescind them. What are those affected going to do, quit..? Because we all know there aren't a ridiculous number of unemployed just wishing for a job, benefits be damned....

This is seriously getting on my nerves. Target offers protections to all employees regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Wal-Mart does not. Target gives domestic partner benefits. Wal-Mart does not. Target gave money to a conservative campaign organization, which in turn supports a candidate who opposes gay marriage, who is friends with a radical Christian musician, who has made very homophobic and inflammatory remarks... And yet Target is completely evil? So you just stop spending money there, and go over to Wal-Mart, the truest definition of evil currently in existence? (Well, the Pope is fighting hard for that title...) We need to view everything objectively.
