Gay Couples Wed in Argentina

Alejandro Vannelli Ernesto Larrese married in Buenos Aires on July 30, 2010 X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

The first couples have tied the knot under Argentina’s historic law legalizing same-sex marriage.

Jose Luis Navarro and Miguel Angel Calefato wed Friday morning in the city of Frias, Santiago del Estero Province. The two have been together for 27 years.

A few hours later, Argentine actor Ernesto Larrese (pictured at right) and his partner, actor-manager Alejandro Vannelli, were married in Buenos Aires.

Argentine president Cristina Fernandez signed the bill into law July 21, making her country the first in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage.

Congratulations Argentina. I've always loved their music (Soda, Babasonicos, etc.), comics (Mafalda), Except maybe when the Argentinian team beat Mexico on "Futbol" ;-) But now that Argentina is at the forefront in gay equality. Los amo muchisimo. xoxox

My partner and I are from Argentina but we have lived in Los Angeles for 9 years. I am so proud of my native country. I love America and I would love to see this happening in the country we adopted as our own. We are planning to go there and wed one of these days together with our girls.

Hmmm ... the world did not end in Argentina. There was no bad aftermath for straight couples and their marriages and, mind you, the state was able to provide equal grounds for all its citizens. Those taxpayers will have a fair chance to file taxes as couples, enjoy the benefits all others couples already had and enjoy all the rights they should have in the first place! This is so 'outrageous', don't you all think? Oh, man. I will go further and say that acceptance and tolerance in the country will take its first steps towards to a more transparent and civilized nation and society. They are ahead ... Maybe other countries and religious leaders worldwide may learn a lesson here and practice a bit more of what they preach ... something related to a true democratic system, transparent and a more genuine understanding inside and outside their own institutions. This is indeed a human right issue in a global environment. Good for Argentina for setting the example in South America.
