Hillary VP Speculation Picks Up

HILLARY CLINTON SMILES X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Chatter about a promotion for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues from Beltway pundits, who say that President Barack Obama could use the lift by selecting her as his vice presidential running mate in 2012.

The evolving relationship between Obama and Clinton has remained a popular topic since the 2008 presidential election. In the latest take on the team of rivals idea, Clinton adds competency to the ticket and helps to raise her one-time adversary’s sagging poll numbers.

According to The Wall Street Journal, “Former Virginia Gov. Doug Wilder, his state's first African-American governor, touched off the controversy. Writing at Politico.com last week, Mr. Wilder argued that Mr. Biden's tenure has been undistinguished and chock full of 'too many YouTube moments.' He charged that Mr. Biden 'has continued to undermine what little confidence the public may have had in him.'”

Some even suggest that Clinton could switch positions with Biden, the Journal reports.

“Pundits jumped on Mr. Wilder's comments and expressed near-universal approval. On his syndicated national show, Chris Matthews of MSNBC assembled a panel to discuss the Wilder intervention. Howard Fineman of Newsweek, a longtime Hillary watcher, said Mrs. Clinton would accept a place on the 2012 ticket ‘in a second.’ John Heilemann, a reporter New York magazine, said the major obstacle would be to ‘figure out a way for Biden to slide aside happily’ and suggested that Mr. Biden replace Mrs. Clinton as Secretary of State.”

To the commentor's looking forward to an Obama defeat: Are you out of your minds? Would really like to have the Republican Tea-Nut alternative. Nothing would be a momentum killer like a 2012 defeat for the democrats who may not be all that we could want but at least they are not our dire enemies.

@lane, that's what you get for thinking and believing. Obama IS a failure, Hillary would have made an EXCELLENT President (she's not the religious fanatic that Obama is, for instance). If you think DADT is just going to go away after November, you're not only a naive person, you're an ignorant naive person.

If Obama's track record is followed, he'll nominate a black radical Christian Fundamentalist for the Vice Presidency, have him give his oath of office by swearing to eradicate same sex marriage, and then turn around and tell us we just need to be patient.

As far as Obama being a major disappointment to the gay community --- I don't really see it. If you guys think that HC would be any better I have to disagree -- no way. After November I believe we will begin to see things move more quickly for us, including serving openly in the US military.

I guess I'm surprised to hear so many haters on Obama. He was and, in my opinion, continues to be, the right man at the right time. He has been able to pass some real monumental legislation that he doesn't get much credit for . . . . nor does he get much credit for "it could have been much worse." Truth is -- it could have. I love HC, but she didn't win and I'm not sure she could have been able to get a lot of what he's been able to do completed. Obama is a year and 8 months into it. I trust this President and I don't regret voting for him. I hope I get to vote for HC in 2016. Government is not the answer for every or most problems here. I'm as left as they come, but we're not going to be a Socialist state so, knowing that they've got to set the right tone and policies for an economic recovery. They are doing so much. Democrats and this President deserve our support.

I get that people are unhappy with Obama and I think he's not in sync with the public. But I also really think the guy is getting a raw deal. This guy inherited one hell of a mess. The stimulus that BUSH implemented and Obama wisely continued SAVED OUR BUTTS. I grew up with stories of the Great Depression and know what we narrowly averted. This mess was caused by greed and many of us (and around us) are responsible for crazy mortgages, defaults, and too much debt. It's easier to blame the leader than blame your friend or relative. But let's get real here everybody. If you are gay and want ANY rights you'd better get energized in Nov and two years by voting Democrat. It's not about the Congress or the President. It's about THE SUPREME COURT. We take one huge step backward for 40 YEARS if the Republicans are able to replace someone like Ginsberg. Keep your eyes on the prize. It's all about the Supreme Court.

We all know that it is highly unlikely Hillary would run against Obama in 2012. That would grossly offend the custom of not challenging a sitting president from within his own party. Hillary would make far too many enemies in her own party that way - and she's much too smart a politician to do that. It is far more likely that she will stay as secretary of state, where her popularity and political stature continue to be very positive. Her chance at the presidency will come in 2016, no matter what happens to Obama in the 2012 election. And I plan to vote for her then, as I did in the 2008 primaries!

NO NO NO NO PLEASE HILLARY Don't do it! He doesn't deserve it! He just wants to use you to get a second term. Run against him instead so America can have a President who is competant and keeps her word! You won the popular vote in the last democratic primary anyway and should be President now! We need Hillary as President, NOT VP. Hillary 2012
