Christopher Hitchens: "I'm Dying"

CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS X390 (GRAB) | ADVOCATE.COM

Author and journalist Christopher Hitchens talked with The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg about his cancer diagnosis, opening the interview by simply saying, “I’m dying.”

"Everybody is, but ... the process has accelerated on me," he continued. "So I'm looking for ways to try to die more like you."

Hitchens is undergoing treatment for esophageal cancer. He said "there are bad days and then there are worse days, and I'm never quite sure whether the exhaustion comes from the treatment or from the tumor itself."

Best known for his frank political columns in magazines including Vanity Fair and The Atlantic, Hitchens made headlines earlier this year by revealing in his autobiography Hitch-22 that he’d slept with two men who would later serve as ministers for Margaret Thatcher.

He told New York Times Magazine columnist Deborah Solomon he thinks everyone is a “little bit gay” and he wrote about his experiences for “people who want to criminalize homosexuality one way or another.”

Sorry to hear he's dying. I saw him lecture a couple of time in NYC. Maybe he could've just quit smoking and drinking so much?

According to TUCCI, "Since nothing can come to exist on its own--- a higher power (GOD) must have been involved." Alrighty then. Here's a question for you: Following your logic, where did your "higher power (GOD)" come from? Your very words contradict your assertion, unless you believe that someone/something created your "higher power (GOD)" in which case someone/something had to have created THAT higher power and someone/something had to have THAT higher power, and so on.

Here's OUR PROOF of a higher power: Nothing came to exist on its own... the first atom, the first cell, the first piece of rock, the first gases, the first ANYTHING. Since nothing can come to exist on its own--- a higher power (GOD) must have been involved. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's no proof. That's just an assertion. Theism has been crushingly refuted----logically, by philosophy; evidentially, by science. Better stop clinging to some unenlightened "belief".

just because we dont have all the answers, does not mean the god exists... just because you dont understand what the scientists are saying, does not mean that god is the answer... science has in last 100 years provided more answers about where we came from, than religion has in the last 7000 years... if science boosted they knew everything, being as young as it is, i would not rely in science either, but religion claims absolute truth based on essentially fairytales and old folk-tales which were passed on by word of mouth for generations before being written down... there is NO WAY religion holds the answers to our origin, or where we are going, NO WAY!

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned his cheerleading IN FAVOR of the Iraq invasion and war, as a LEFT-winger, which did a great deal of damage. That is what he may (hopefully) have regrets about on his deathbed - not his atheism.

"But we really can disprove it - the universe looks exactly like it should look like if it were devoid of intent and random." This makes no sense. Again, somebody who has nothing to go on trying to sound intelligent. Here's OUR PROOF of a higher power: Nothing came to exist on its own... the first atom, the first cell, the first piece of rock, the first gases, the first ANYTHING. Since nothing can come to exist on its own--- a higher power (GOD) must have been involved.

So Sad. I miss him already! What a brave, outspoken soul. He is truly one of the most influential writers in this world and it breaks my heart that a man of such mental strength, tenacity, and conviction will be gone soon.

". No one can PROOVE that God doesn't exist" - no one needs to. It's up to the proponent of an argument to prove it, not someone else to disprove it. But we really can disprove it - the universe looks exactly like it should look like if it were devoid of intent and random. We've removed "God" from lightning, thunder, death, the seasons, crops, the sun rising and setting, eclipses, the origin of life, the rise of man, earthquakes, and the creation of the universe. We've done away with Zeus, Hera, Thor, Quetzalcoatl, Baal, and literally more than 1,000 other man-made Gods. There's not too many places left for God to hide. The book "God: The Failed Hypothesis" takes on God like any other scientific hypothesis and makes a scientific argument to reject the hypothesis.

Atheism, in a broad sense, is the rejection of belief in the existence of deities.[1] In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities.[2] Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist.[3] Atheism is contrasted with theism,[4] which in its most general form is the belief that at least one deity exists.[5][6] source en.wikipedia
