FROM BRAZILIAN NEWS: "According to one official, the Operations Centre of the Military Police of Juiz de Fora, the incident occurred due to a feud between gangs formed by residents of two neighborhoods and has nothing to do with the event. "This rivalry has existed for many years between these gangs, neighborhoods Garden Christmas and Santa Luzia. Any reason they used to fight. I think it has nothing to do with prejudice, or any connection with the event, once the party is more than 10 years in the city, is devoted and very well organized, "said the policeman." "are even the gangs loosening-up about homosexuality?" I guess so. When I used to live in LA a couple of years back I had neighbors who were gay and gangsters. They were a couple. They've always had parties and I would attend. It was filled with bald headed men from wall to wall. There were a few that were openly gay, but I guess the newer generation of gangsters are becoming more tolerant of gays, especially when gang allegiance is number one and in a sense is pretty homo erotic in nature. In retrospect what these gangsters do not like is overwhelming femininity as it is seen as a sign of weakness. But they are also tolerant about fems who are not gangsters themselves (some of them hang out at this barber shop run by an extremely flamboyant gay guy). It is safe to say that gangsters are more tolerant than any other sector in the hispanic community, even calling gay partners as husbands, or his "man." Pretty weird but thats what I saw.

Nah, doug, that can't be right. I really can't imagine that the gangs would decide any such thing. Gangbangers have always had a thing for shooting at members of other gangs, turf wars, old grievances, dope sellers' competition, etc., and it's simply tough luck for whoever happens to be in the line of fire; no deliberate aiming at queers is indicated. What this news does suggest however, is that there are more gangbangers who, for whatever reason, are going to gay pride events lately. Gangs were at one time, at least, as homophobic as any group could be, especially the Hispanic gangs. No gay-leaning gangbanger would dare to come out of the closet in the old days. But it's been a long time since I've kept-up with streetgang behavior (from published articles, not personal involvement), so I haven't heard anything on this particular issue, and can only wonder, are even the gangs loosening-up about homosexuality?
