Aide Linked to Foreign Sec. Hague Quits

The male aide who reportedly shared a hotel room with British foreign secretary William Hague (pictured left) during his general election campaign resigned Wednesday over "malicious" claims the two had shared an inappropriate relationship.

Hague issued an unusually personal statement to The Telegraph Wednesday morning denying any romantic involvement with adviser Christopher Myers (pictured right): “Any suggestion that the Foreign Secretary’s relationship with Chris Myers is anything other than a purely professional one is wholly inaccurate and unfounded.”

Hague said he was reacting to days of newspaper and Internet speculation about his relationship with Myers.

"He has now told me that, as a result of the pressure on his family from the untrue and malicious allegations made about him, he does not wish to continue in his position," the foreign secretary said.

Myers, 25, serves the Tory minister as a special adviser at the foreign office, a May appointment that generated criticism because the office already had two advisers.

Hague has been married to a woman since 1997.

The Hague denial comes just days after prisons minister Crispin Blunt came out and separated from his wife.

Wow. If this article is correct, and if the advisor in question is 25, and if they allegedly had a relationship during the Secratary's general election campaign when he was the Leader of the Conservative Party which was in 2001, that would have made said advisor 16 at the time. I'm sure the age is off a bit in this article. Does it mean the advisor was 25 at the time of the alleged affair? This should be clarified. William Hague is a great guy though. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a campaign stop in MP Malcom Rifkind's district in 2001. One of the highlights of my life! Keep "keeping the pound", William! :-)

Erm, I could be missing the point, but what has Hitler and the Catholic Church got to do with William Hague?

AT least 10% if not 15% of the world is gay. And thats great. As we break down the closet of shame and fear, more and more people will discover that someone they know and love is gay. And its so difficult to get someone to hate someone you know, love and respect. The end of homophobic hatred. And hopefully the end of the church of the molestation. Which has yet to excommunciate the biggest murder in history - Hitler, born and baptised catholic in Very catholic Austria. And with the end of this evil murderous and hatefilled institution will come a new dawning of light and love and respect in the west for all peoples. While the vatican and its churches become parking lots, or museums dedicated to teaching future generations about hatred in the name of God. But really its not God they serve, they serve their own money and power and ego, a cancerous combination that has been the curse of the western world
