Hague: Work Not Hurt by Gay Rumors

British foreign minister William Hague said that rumors of his intimate involvement with an aide have not disrupted the work of his office.

According to Bloomberg, Hague spoke Thursday at a press conference with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle in London, where he said, “The work of the Foreign Office hasn’t missed a beat and will not miss a beat at any stage. I haven’t spent many minutes away from my duties.”

On Wednesday, Hague issued a statement denying blog speculation about his sharing a hotel room during the election season with Christopher Myers, a special adviser. Myers resigned shortly after the statement. Hague said that he and his wife are “happily married.”

Hague told reporters at the press conference “at some point you have to speak out” and that he wanted to “put the record straight.”

“We dealt with all that yesterday,” he said.
