Colleagues Criticize Hague for Gay Denial

WilliamHaguex180 (UK) | Advocate.com

Some conservative colleagues say that British foreign secretary William Hague showed poor PR judgment with his public denial of a gay affair, claiming that his statement has only sparked more interest in long-running rumors about his sexuality.

This week, Hague denied any intimate involvement with Christopher Myers, an aide with whom he shared a hotel room. Myers quit his job Wednesday.

Some political insiders have criticized both the sleeping arrangements and the affair denial as naive, according to the Daily Telegraph.

“His highly unusual decision to make a public statement on Wednesday about his sexuality — in which he also revealed the personal tragedy of his wife’s repeated miscarriages — is regarded as a serious lapse of judgment by close friends and PR gurus alike, as it alerted the entire country to a smear which, until then, few people had been aware of,” reports the Telegraph.

The Telegraph adds that some people have long believed Hague was gay because he championed gay rights as a student at Oxford University and remained a bachelor for many years. Tory PR specialists advised him not to respond to the latest rumors because of this context.

Marriage is important, but it is not Job 1 Job 1 is for gay people to come out of the closet. No matter what. Its awful hard to hate people you know , love and respect. Which is why so many college kids, living away from home, and having out gay friends, are immune to the homophobic hatred of the fundamentalist relgiions, eg Catholic, So. Baptist, some of the independent christian churches. Who do exactly what the Islamic extremist fundies do. Use hatred to push their agenda. The only difference is they haven't taken flying lessons. Except for the nut case who crashed his plane into the IRS building in TX some months ago. He belonged to a group that thinks taxes are illegal, and was surely a republican and tea party beleiver. Most of the other christian faiths are either on board re gay rights, or at least not openly homophobic. The MCC, UU, UCC, Episcopal, Quakers, Evangelical Lutherans, new light Presbyterians, (presbyterian USA all but there) * Jewish are pro gay

David Cameron needs to issue some kind of mandate that all closeted Tories with a seat in Parliament must get it over with and come out. Clearly their big worry is having yet another scandal like with the prisons minister a couple of weeks ago. Plus I'm sure all the wives could do with the reassurance.
