Liza to Discuss Legacy of Parents

LIZA MINNELLI X 390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Liza Minnelli will discuss the legacy of her equally-iconic parents, entertainer Judy Garland and film director Vincente Minnelli, in a rare television interview. Minnelli will sit down with Robert Osborne, host of Turner Classic Movies, for Private Screenings: Liza Minnelli, an in-depth interview special scheduled to premiere December 11. The cable network will devote two evenings, December 11 and 14, to films that either starred Garland, were directed by Minnelli, or starred Liza, including the TCM premiere of 1976's A Matter of Time, a rarely seen film in which Minnelli directed his daughter.

“Liza Minnelli has a perspective about Hollywood unlike anyone else,” Osborne says in a statement released to the press today. “She is an Academy Award-winning actress with parents who both were also Oscar winners. Her playground was soundstages, where she watched her parents and other film icons work, so she has insights into their world, which became her world. Her story is at once fascinating, dramatic, and touching and has never been extensively told before. We’re very excited to be able to devote two nights to celebrating the lives and work of this extraordinary family.”

Liza's life is as interesting as any movie I've ever watched on TCM. Can't wait to see this. In these situations, Liza is brilliant. I've seen her discuss her career and her parents with a film critic at Chicago Film Festival several years ago and she was enchanting and brilliant.

While I really really love Liza, I dread this interview. It will be filled with so many phony stories. She has been telling these crap-stories for so long that i don't even think she knows the truth from the phony. You know-- if Lorna was on there with her, it would seem more real. I do love her work, but she just seems like such a Borderline.

I'd forgotten the two Minnellis made a film together. Will be nice to hear her talk about it.

Should be really interesting. I hope it's not all fluff and Hollywood gloss. A touch, just a pinch, of realness would be good too.

I just met Liza during her recent appearance in San Diego. Her perfomance was simply sensational. She is a major star and knows how to entertain like no other. Liza is charming, engaging and down-to-earth, which makes her so likeable and unforgettable. Among many other stars, Liza shines the brightest.
