Activists Zap Dems on ENDA

GeorgeMillerx180 (House.gov) | Advocate.com

Members of GetEQUAL, One Struggle One Fight, and Pride at Work disrupted a debate Wednesday night in California between Rep. George Miller and his Republican opponent Rick Tubbs to demand action on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

According to Karen Ocamb at LGBT POV, “The protesters walked to the front of the debate area holding a sign reading: ‘Employment Non Discrimination Act Now.’ They want Miller, chair of the U.S. House Education and Labor committee (seen here with the white hair in between the signs), to keep a promise he made to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) before Congress recesses for the November, midterm elections.”

Activists are eager to see ENDA passed before January, when the new Congress could be sworn in without Democratic majorities in both houses, depending on the outcome of the November elections.

LGBT POV reports that R. Clark Cooper, the new executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, has spoken with Republican leadership about ENDA and found no plans on their part to move the bill.

According to Politico, on Thursday, "The group GetEQUAL plans to protest Pelosi and Miller in the Castro. Read more on that protest here.

No I have to agree, getting Pissy will hurt in the end. Pissed off won't, nope, definitely won't. It may actually motivate a few here and there but being pissy did not make way for either the American Indian Civil rights movement or Civil rights movement of the 60s and 70s. They Marched Across the Nation. The communities came together and made a big movement. Our enemies have learned that being openly disparagingly will embolden our side and others to our cause, it's a different playing field.

Sorry AndrewW, So getting pissed off is an excuse for permitting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. So this implies we should simply keep kissing ass so we can potentially have more non-committal "friends." They should be doing their fucking job. The truth is, is that this is not being passed because our government is mostly homophobic, Christian, conservative, STUPID politicians....the rest are just cowards.

More childish behavior. None of these self-serving publicity stunts change anything – they just make us look stupid. Pelosi hasn’t scheduled a vote on ENDA because it will not pass the current US Senate. All these silly protests do is jeopardize our relationships with politicians that already support us. We are about to get clobbered in the mid-terms and GetEQUAL is simply making that worse by pissing on our friends.

Bravo! Our elected officials (whose vast salaries and family benefits are paid by our taxes) work for us. Churches don't pay taxes, we do. Gay people are being fired every day in this country for being gay. We must rant, scream, picket, and riot everywhere until ENDA is passed in the House and Senate (while we still have a President who will sign it-Palin, Buchanan and Romney will not).
