Bullied Male Cheerleader on GMA

GOOD MORNING AMERICA CHEERLEADER TYLER WILSON X390

Tyler Wilson, the 11-year-old cheerleader whose arm was broken by bullies who taunted him for joining the squad, appeared on Good Morning America Wednesday to explain why he plans to keep on cheering.

“It’s been bumpy,” Tyler Wilson said of his return to school. “People are now threatening to break my other arm 'cause I told on them.”

His mother, Kristy Wilson, has filed assault charges against the kids who beat up her son. She supports Tyler’s right to cheer — she even wears a T-shirt that says, “Yes, my son’s a cheerleader — GET OVER IT!”

“I want these boys to understand that regardless of what my son chooses to do, there’s no reason for this,” Kristy Wilson said.

The sad thing is, male cheerleaders were the norm when sports first "came out" professionally in this country. It was considered a very prestigious and "macho" thing to do, almost equal to the status of the athletes.

What a great kid and GOOD JOB MOM! If only other parents were as quick to rise to the defense of their children. Watching the video, I am struck not only by how much George Stephanopoulos comes across as a closet case, but also George W. Bush's interest in cheerleading??? I never would have guessed.

Tragically, the irrational belief of heterosexual-supremacy is very much alive and sick. It's too well taught and too well learned and too easily internalized by its victims. This brave healthy child is saying "enough!" Too few institutions in society teach that this particular superiority complex is neurotic and dangerous for everyone.

Good on this kid for standing his ground! He'll go far in life. As for the little tough guys threatening to break his other arm, what kind of parents are raising them? This is a world gone mad!

The little tough guys who threatened to break his other arm should have to spend a little time in juvenile detention. Then we will see how quickly they wet their pants and cry for mommy.
