Utah Bill to Ban Gay Families?

A Utah legislator introduced a bill Wednesday that would require all publicly funded programs, laws, and regulations, to ensure they exclude families headed by gay and lesbian couples.

Rep. LaVar Christensen writes in the bill's language  that "marriage and family predate all governments and are supported by and consistent with the Laws of Nature and God, the Creator and Supreme Judge of the World, affirmed in the nation’s founding Declaration of Independence." It also says, "families anchored by both a father and a mother, fidelity within marriage, and enduring devotion to the covenants and responsibilities of marriage are the desired norm."

Brandie Balken, executive director of Equality Utah, told the Salt Lake City Tribune that the bill could be used to "create a filter for public agencies and a way to target laws, services and funding that currently help single Utahns or Utanhs with families that differ from Representative Christensen's."

So because my husband died 23 years ago and I raised my 7 children as a single mother, I would follow under his idea of a family NOT anchored by faith? I am active and worthy as are my children. Trust me, I would love to have had a father and mother in my home all those years. But the only father my kids ever had was their Father in Heaven. I do not agree with a gay lifestyle, but to deny government access is not only wrong, it is unconstitutional. So much for this guy living a Christ like life.

Oh yes, someone who doesn't support gays MUST be a closet gay themselves.. That's real superb logic there. These comments disgust me. For people that claim to be all about tolerance you sure seem awfully intolerant of someone who won't support unnatural, chosen lifestyles.

Hey I know this guy from the Public Toilets outside Salt Lake. I thought that he was praying to his god (Pripus), when I saw him on his knees. It is these sick religious nuts that are as bad as the terrorists who proclaim that they fight for God.... Everyone deserves the right to be loved and to marry. The fact that this fool got this far in his sickness that I fear for gay mormans ( there are many) more than other gay individuals outside that sick unified state.

I just don't understand why there is a group of men who want to control so much of our lives. Americans are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan to free their citizens from fundamentalist religious controlling figures. What are we doing about our own?

This proposed legislation DISCRIMINATES AGAINST SINGLE-PARENT HOUSEHOLDS! A "family" could no longer be defined as a single mother or father, raising kids! Thousands, if not millions, of people would be thrown off social services' rolls! It ain't just a Queer thing; it's a cheapskate, we-hate-welfare thing, as well. Whatever you do, do NOT get divorced in Utah, no matter HOW badly you're being beaten, and for gawd's sake, don't let your spouse die on you, unless you plan to marry his brother, like it says in the Babble. Mormons are some sick freaks and need their nonprofit status pulled.
