Vegas Hotel Apologizes to Trans Woman

COSMOPOLITAN HOTEL LAS VEGAS X390

After security guards booted a transgender woman from the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino for using a women's restroom, hotel officials have issued an apology to the woman and the entire LGBT community.

The woman was not only forced to leave but banned for life from the hotel after security guards asked to see her identification following a trip to the restroom earlier this month. "Upon leaving the restroom, [the woman] says, two security men whisked her out of the hotel, told her that she was trespassing on Cosmopolitan property and that she would be arrested if she did not leave," the Las Vegas Weekly reports. "She says that they photographed her (and her driver’s license) and told her that she was banned from ever returning to the hotel."

The Cosmopolitan — a new Strip property known as trendy and gay-friendly — released an apology Tuesday: “The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is committed to maintaining a community that recognizes and values the inherent dignity of every person, by fostering sensitivity, understanding and mutual respect of our guests and employees.

“We sincerely regret any misunderstanding or inappropriate actions that any member of our staff may have taken. And to ensure increased sensitivity within this area, the organization will focus on continued training and on-going awareness initiatives. In addition, we apologize to the individual guest and welcome her back to the resort anytime.

“We would like to apologize to the LGBT community and anyone concerned and hope to demonstrate our firm dedication to fair and unbiased treatment of all.”

To be considered as the best hotel. Perfect manners are highly recommended. When you know how to accommodate customers, surely your business will grow.

Rolls eyes at Deanne... You know, sometimes you are your own worst enemy. I have all the good will in the world for trans women, I'm not sure what I said that made you think otherwise, yet you choose to attack me. Unfortunately it is people like you who get on the defensive against someone who is on your side, that makes me not give a shit about your cause.

As a transwoman myself, I understand some of the worries, but really. Stop fucking worrying about whos in the bathroom with you, and find better things to worry about... Here's a thought, what if, instead of "freaking out", the women were sympathetic to the woman who was unfortunate enough to be born in a misgendered body. Ask her how shes doing, be kind to her, show your support of a fellow female, who is just doing her best to be who she really is. Don't grab hold of the ONE stupid asshat who did something stupid, and place it as the norm. If we did that, several other things would be true 1. All men are pigs, sports addicts, rapists, abusive, and want women back where they belong, in the kitchen. 2. All women are sluts, whores, petty, bitchy, and only want to trap a man in a loveless marriage. Need I go on?

No Jason, you can not sympathize with me. Not unless you have gone to a mental health professional , spent no less than 6 month talking and receiving a diagnoses of then (GID). You can not sympathize with me unless you have gone to a GYN or an ENDO and started HRT. You can not sympathize with me unless you have been raped because he believes that you do this "for the sex". No, what you do is pity me, stop it. This woman will never return to that establishment and she will forever tell people about her wonderful experiences there. I just the the loss of business hurts them where it counts... In the Pocketbook.

@T Carter, Don't get so defensive, I sympathize with trans women, and my comment has nothing to do with them, just because a man is wearing women's clothing does not make him a trans women. I did not defend what the guards did, I said I can understand the concern a woman in a ladies' room may have if she sees what appears to be a man dressed in woman's clothing entering the ladies' room. I also said that it is conceivable that a man can dress in women's clothing and commit rape. There was a case in New Orleans a few years ago where men dressed in women's clothing robbed upscale stores at gun point along a main shopping corridor. Those were not trans women, they were men dressed in women's clothes, so yes it could happen. Unfortunately if a trans woman does not easily pass as a woman, she may be subjected to unwarranted and unfair treatment. I'm sad to say that may never change.

@Jason B: Please give me an example of when this has happened. Sexual predators cross-dressing in order to rape women in public bathrooms? What's next...does he put them in a pit and tell them to put the lotion on or they'll get the hose? The way this lady was treated is indefensible.

I lived in Las Vegas for nine years and yes, it is a homophobic place to a certain extent. Having said that, they are changing their perception. What thappened to this lady is unfortunate and can be attributed to a couple of ignorant douchebags. They asked her is she was "working", meaning hooking. As if all TG women were hookers, straying away from the chicken ranch. It makes me mad and sad that there is still so much intollerance in this country.

Yes, the hotel went too far, but I can understand the concern of female patrons, as well I can understand the feelings and emotions of a trans woman. My issue is this, and I'm not sure how it can be solved, if I was a straight woman in the ladies room and I saw, what I perceived as, a man dressed in women's clothes enter the ladies room, I would be alarmed. To an extent, what is to stop a sex offender from putting on women's clothes, saying he is trans and raping women in a bathroom. If someone has had sex reassignment surgery then there is no threat, if they haven't I can see where there could be some concern.

The Cosmopolitan Hotel is very gay friendly, now maybe someone using the restroom was offended and complained and the guards screwed up, but in defense of the hotel, they are very friendly towards all people including LGTB people in general..

The way I was brought up an apology had to be specific to be meaningful. "Any misunderstandings..." is so vague that the apology could be to anyone for anything.
