Comedian Booed Off Stage After F Bomb

JO KOY X390 (FAIR PUB) | ADVOCATE.COM

Comedian Jo Koy, a regular on the show Chelsea Lately, was booed off a Chicago stage Wednesday after he imitated a supposed gay dance and called an audience member a "fucking faggot."

Koy was in the Windy Cindy for the TBS Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. According to the Windy City Times, which had a journalist at the event, "At one point in [Koy's] stand-up act he danced in a feminine fashion and said, 'I made this dance extra gay since I am not gay.' Later his zipper was open, bringing screams from several female fans in the front row, who pointed at his jeans. One male voice yelled, 'I saw it.' Koy replied, 'What are you looking at, fucking faggot?'" The comedian was booed off the stage of the Vic Theatre after his rant.

Koy tweeted an apology Thursday: "I sincerely apologize for the incredibly foul word I chose to use on stage last night in Chicago. It was a moment that I regret. I realize that words can be hurtful, which is never my intent. I’m truly saddened if I offended anyone with my poor choice of words, particularly the gay community. Homophobia is not funny."

Why has this article not been pulled off this site yet? As many other comments have stated, this article is extremely inaccurate. I was also at the show and the booing at the end of the show was due to Jo Koy getting cutoff during his final joke because of time constraints, that IS ALL. In no way do I support the use of offensive language or the use of the "f-word", but I also do not support creating drama and slanderous articles for the sake of making a point. Shame on you Advocate.com for losing your credibility. And, let's remember, it was a comedy show. I laughed so hard at Jo Koy's hilarious show that my face hurt the next day. You don't see Filipinos, short people, people with small dicks, people with big dicks, nurses or Latinos getting upset.

Jo Koy is lame! Although I am an avid fan of "Chelsea Lately", I am NOT a fan of Jo's comedy. He seems to have personal issues that need resolution. And, YES! I aggree with others' comments here, that "twitter apologies" are also quite lame. There is NO one-on-one interaction a person like Jo Koy or Tracy Morgan must have to get the FULL effect of their words. It's all done behind their little phone screen; at THEIR leisure.

Anybody else tired of Twitter apologies? Are people really supposed to accept that?

The age-old "I'm sorry IF I offended anyone" is a cop-out and a non-apology by someone trying to squirm out of actually expressing remorse. Jo Koy was rightfully booed for his homophobic rant, and he should be direct in his apology with an "I offended people with my inappropriate words, and I apologize deeply."

I was at the Chicago show. This article is not accurate. The author should get the facts straight. The "f bomb" was dropped approximately 15 minutes into the show and was met with laughter (I'm not defending the use of the word, but I believe it was the off-the-cuff shock value that people found funny. He has also always supported the gay community..). Booing at the end of the show (60 minutes later) was aimed at the venue reps who would not let Jo finish his set or final joke because he had gone over time. He asked the reps behind the stage if he could have an extra minute to finish and they didn't let him and he had to end eburuptly, hence booing at THEM, not him.

ironic in a way...I used to watch the Chelsea Handler Show regularly until the day she was making fun of a shirt Jo was wearing calling him out for looking like "a flaming F****t" even though the offensive word was bleeped that was it for me and Miss Handler. I don't accept support from people like that who believe that because they have a gay friend/employee or two they can say whatever they like. Not surprising that her protege uses the same language for a laugh.

Is there a "what To say if you offend the gays 101" website this remark comes from. Seems so insincere. I'm truly saddened. Doesn't seem too sad or regretful except that he got caught saying it and now looks like an ass. Those words come from somewhere. Pathetic.
