OLIVER THORNTON x390 (fair use) | Advocate.com

Oliver Thornton, star of London's Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the Musical

The tale of two ABBA-loving Aussie drag queens and their curmudgeonly transgender pal who take their show on the road through the Australian outback is headed to North America. Adapted from the Oscar-winning 1994 film, Priscilla Queen of The Desert, The Musical is set to open on Broadway March 6, 2011.

The West End cast currently includes Oliver Thornton (as Felicia/Adam), Jason Donovan (as Mitzi/Tick), and Don Gallagher (as Bernadette), but it isn’t known whether those actors will repeat their roles in the Broadway production.

No ABBA?! That's quite a plot change! Also, I'm curious as to how many of the cast members themselves are gay? Hmmm.....

There is no ABBA in the show - the drag queens have become Kylie loving for the stage version.

As much as I love Priscilla and ABBA.. isn't Mamma Mia enough "f*cking ABBA" (to quote Bernadette) on Broadway right now?

I had the great fortune to see this how in the West End last Fall while in London. It is a evening of good fun and wonderful production values. Is it "Virginia Wolfe"? NO... but is it a make you laugh, make you cry, make you dance in your seat evening of fun? ABSOLUTELY! I can hardly wait to see it on Boradway, and laugh, cry and dance all over again. A very talented cast, over the top costumes, and need I mention the ping pong balls...
