Gavin Newsom Goes AWOL?

GAVIN NEWSOM X390 | ADVOCATE.COM

Some San Francisco residents are expressing annoyance that Mayor Gavin Newsom left town abruptly last week -- without telling his staff. The episode, in which staff members were forced to cancel the mayor’s scheduled appearances, drew comparisons to South Carolina governor Mark Sanford's impromptu desertion of his post this summer.

Newsom went to Hawaii last Friday for a vacation with his wife and newborn daughter after announcing that he was dropping his bid for California governor.

The departure even caught his staff by surprise, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“Last Friday, hours after speaking before a bank of television cameras about the oil spill in the bay, Newsom announced he was dropping out of the governor's race and hasn't been seen at City Hall since,” reported the San Francisco Chronicle. “Word finally came Tuesday that he was on the Big Island with his wife, newborn daughter and in-laws. He left without telling his staff, who abruptly canceled a raft of major appearances on his behalf.”

The mayor is reportedly on his way back to work.

Poor Gavin, loss of funds for the Governor of California race upcoming, withdrawn for that reason alone, and needed a BREATHER so met up with his wife and new child for a break. He needed that. He lives IN The City and just had needed a much restful break. Wind caught up and glory be he left back on a plane back to SFO to City Hall since everyone had such a hissy. Why could they NOT just leave him alone for a couple more days!??! Willie Brown had invited him to a breakfast and missed that, well the CITY did NOT crumble. Why can't the man have a non-notification "Mental Health Day or two" like the other reader suggested anyways?? Life goes on, here Advo should of NOT posted this, even though it was SF Chronicle and AP wire that did. Unnecessary really, give him some space.

You can't always pre-schedule mental health days.

WOW This is the first time I have heard anything negative about Gavin Newsom. Well, at least he was with his real honest to goodness family...before I read the story I thought maybe he found a cute go go boy and was attempting to make him pregnant.
