An erotic
photographer, 26-year-old Alexandra Gibson never allowed
someone to shoot her nude before now. “I was anorexic
for about seven years,” she says. But after
going through a treatment program, she says
she’s now “able to see myself without the
fun-house mirror—as I really am.” As
Gibson began to see her body realistically, she also began
to decorate it with tattoos. By allowing her body to
be a canvas, she found a “way to express myself
through my body and find the beauty in it.”

Her most
elaborate tattoo is one she had done on her back while in
Thailand. “It wasn’t planned,” she
says. “I saw someone with an amazing tattoo and
asked him where he got it.” Gibson ended up finding
the tattoo artist in a jungle hut, and it took 19
hours to complete the job. “Getting through it
required meditation—and a lot of beer,” she
says. “Eventually your body just gives out. I
ran out of adrenaline around hour 14.”
