CBS has committed
to produce a pilot for Will & Grace
creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick's new untitled buddy
comedy project, which is loosely based on their friendship.
Kohan, who is straight, and Mutchnick, who is gay,
have been friends since their teen years at Beverly
Hills High School. The upcoming series will feature four
characters: a gay writer who is the best friend of a
straight writer and the writers' hot young assistants.
Kohan and
Mutchnick will write and executive-produce the show. The two
have also executive-produced the network's comedy series
The Stones, which was created by Kohan's sister,
Jenji Kohan, who went on to Showtime's successful comedy
Weeds. Kohan and Mutchnick most recently created
and executive-produced the comedies Four Kings
for NBC and Twins for the WB last season.
Will & Grace, which bowed out in May after
eight seasons, won a comedy series Emmy in 2000. (The
