A new poll shows
that a majority of Colorado voters support domestic
partnerships for gays but that a majority also support
limiting marriage to heterosexual couples. Of those
polled, 58% said they would vote for a
domestic-partnership measure on the November ballot, while
53% said they would vote for another ballot measure
defining marriage as a union between a man and woman,
Denver's CBS4 News and The Rocky Mountain News report.
The poll, conducted throughout the state
September 10–12 by Public Opinion Strategies,
also showed that Denver residents were more likely to
support domestic partnerships and that residents of Colorado
Springs, known as a hotbed of religious-right
activism, were less likely to support them. Eight in
10 voters said they personally know someone who is gay
or lesbian. (The Advocate)
