A former Madison, Wis., police officer has been accused of assaulting a man who was once married to her current girlfriend. While Laura Walker, 36, was not officially charged with the crime, her case has been transferred to Milwaukee to avoid a conflict of interest, the Associated Press reported Wednesday. During a bail hearing on Monday, Walker fainted and fell against a wall. She was removed from the hearing in a wheelchair and later posted $5,000 bail.

The district attorney’s office said the break-in was a strategically thought-out crime in which Walker allegedly used a shovel to break a window to get into the home. The attack happened at 2 a.m. Saturday. The victim told police that he heard a noise and that Walker allegedly entered the bedroom. He wrestled with the intruder, breaking a closet door, and managed to push her out of his bedroom, according to the AP. He further explained that he recognized Walker when she pushed him to the floor and straddled him, telling him that she would kill him if he called the police. Court commissioner David Flesch issued a temporary restraining order barring Walker from the man’s home.

Walker is currently a third-year University of Wisconsin law student who interned with the Madison district attorney’s office last summer. She was a police officer from May 1999 to December 2006. (The Advocate)
