Two people were
arrested and charged with trespassing at the Focus on the
Family headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo., Saturday
morning following a demonstration by Soulforce
activists. Christopher Hubble and Leigh Lyon of Denver
were part of the group that walked onto the Focus on
the Family property and participated in a silent prayer
vigil. The demonstration, called Focus on the Facts,
ended in the recitation of antigay remarks made
by Dobson over the years.
Hubble and Lyon
refused to leave the property without meeting Dobson.
They planned to ask him to stop gay bashing.
"The goal of this
direct action campaign of civil disobedience is not to
embarrass or shame Dr. Dobson but to open his heart," Hubble
said in a statement. "I sincerely hope that this
'nonviolent conversation' will persuade him and his
associates to finally end their partisan campaign of
untruthful rhetoric which causes so much suffering for
lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people."
Lyon added that
she encourages Dobson to stop using derogatory words
because so much gay bashing results in suicide and religious
alienation. "I want to see this end, and I am here to
say, 'No more,'" she said in the statement. "God loves
us all." (The Advocate)
