On the heels of
New York governor Eliot Spitzer’s introduction of a
bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the
state, more than 1,000 gay rights advocates rallied in
Albany, the state capital, on Tuesday to show
their support for the measure. The LGBT New Yorkers and
their allies also pushed for a bill that would
prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender
identity and expression and another that would ban
bias-based harassment in schools.
Among the officials on hand were state assembly
member Danny O'Donnell, the openly gay brother of
Rosie O'Donnell, who will be carrying the marriage
equality bill in the assembly. (The Advocate)
