A bill banning
workplace discrimination against gays was signed into law
last Friday in Colorado by Gov. Bill Ritter. The state will
become the 20th state in the nation to make such
discrimination illegal, according to the Human Rights
Campaign. “Once this bill is signed into law,
Colorado will be a freer and fairer place for its lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender residents,” HRC
President Joe Solmonese said in a press release when
the bill was initially pushed in the state senate.State
senator Jen Veiga has fought to get the law in the book for
a decade. Two legislative votes in 2005 and 2006 were
vetoed by then-governor, Bill Owens, a Republican.
The newest
anti-discrimination law will join others which bar unfair
treatment in the workplace based on race, age, or
disability. (The Advocate)
