T.R. Knight
will be the focus of a 20-second PSA, which will be
released for National Coming Out Day, October 11.
Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight is asking the
public to be tolerant of those who come out to them as
gay. Knight is the focus of an upcoming 20-second
public service announcement from the Gay and Lesbian
Alliance Against Defamation, which will begin
airing on National Coming Out Day, October 11.
The PSA’s
debut comes just days before the one-year anniversary of
Knight's own public coming-out, which was prompted by a
series of incidents in which
former Anatomy costar Isaiah Washington
used an antigay slur in referring to him.
“More and
more gay people like T.R. are living their lives openly and
honestly," GLAAD president Neil G. Giuliano said in a press
release. "T.R.'s coming-out has had tremendous impact
in terms of creating awareness, understanding, and
acceptance."
The spot is part
of GLAAD’s new "Be an Ally and a Friend"
campaign featuring 22 entertainers from television, film,
and sports. The spots encourage tolerance and urge an
end to homophobia, directing viewers to GLAAD.org. (The Advocate)
