Palin Tells Dobson that McCain Will Skew More Conservative if Elected

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin stopped by Focus on the Family head Jim Dobson’s radio show this week to assure evangelical Christians that if elected, she’s convinced John McCain will implement more traditional Republican policies on issues including stem cell research, abortion and same-sex marriage.


Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin stopped by Focus on the Family head Jim Dobson’s radio show this week to assure evangelical Christians that if elected, she’s convinced John McCain will implement more traditional Republican policies on issues including stem cell research, abortion and same-sex marriage.

Though many moderate Republicans have suggested McCain has skewed more conservative than ever before in this election to shore up Republican votes, Palin’s interview with Dobson suggests that if elected, America would see that McCain’s views on social issues are more closely aligned with her own.

“I do, from the bottom of my heart,” she told Dobson. "I am such a strong believer that McCain believes in those strong planks and we do have good conversations about some of the details too, about the different planks and what they represent.”

MSNBC political writer Matthew Berger posted a recount of the interview to the network’s First Read blog. He said Dobson began the conversation by saying that the McCain/Palin platform is the “strongest pro-life, pro-family document to come out of a political party.”

McCain has split from party lines with his views on several social issues. He opposes abortion but has said he doesn’t support a constitutional amendment to ban it. He also voted against the federal marriage amendment.

The two have also disagreed on stem cell research. McCain has previously said he would look to relax restrictions implemented by the Bush administration on embryonic stem cell research.

Earlier this week, Palin said she supported a federal marriage amendment to ban same-sex marriage. She is also against abortion and stem cell research. (The Advocate)

    England gets it! Every school in England is going to teach Sex education from Kindergarten up! They have had so many school girls pregnant in the last few yrs. they said the Sex-Education starts immediately. Now this should make Palin turn green and all her far-right friends. We need Obama and Biden to set our America on the road to intelligence again, and they will. I'm tired of hearing from Europe how pathic America has become under the Republican Administration, and darn it they're right. How any gay person could want Palin and McCain is unbelievable!

    We can sum up exactly what to expect from McCain and Palin in one easy to understand sentence: Palin talks to James Dobson! Eeeeek! Run for the hills, gay people!! The disregard for us as citizens will be even greater than it's been in the Bush/Cheney administration.

    I think Wayne and Gays4Palin are either rightwing straights sowing discord or they are just racist and using another excuse to not support Obama. (I’ll bet Wayne is just a big racist) Obama has spoken about gay rights to groups that are not supportive and is probably the best person to move some constituencies forward on this issue. Here is an excerpt from the article noted by Wayne below: "Senator Obama's position on LGBT equality is clear and he has consistently spoken out against ...Prop 8. Certainly our campaign -- and our country -- is open enough to allow people from all walks of life and ideologies to work together to bring America the change we need.” The Obama campaign has brought together diverse groups and this is a good thing. We certainly can't have McCain in office acting like a Palin style rattlesnake baptist.

    While Obama and Biden personally believe that marriage SHOULD be between a "man and a woman", they do not support getting out the crayons and amending the U.S. Constitution. McSame says he does not support an amendment, "unless necessary". Palin openly supports an amendment and claims to Dobson that McSame will come around IF elected. McSame/Palincunt will do anything to keep the base with them. This would be most clearly visible in potential judicial appointments from the Supreme Court down. The homocons are few in number and do little harm. The Uncle Toms are negligible, frozen assets ignored by their chosen party, whos relationships and way of life come second to their politics. There is a lack of reason and clear lack of self worth when you support policies which are contrary to the well being of the most fundamentally important aspect of ones life - family.

    OK, does anyone remember how Karl Rove and Bush created the so-called wedge issue on gay marriage. It was clearly a strategy to divide the voters and win the election. People should really be focusing on whats important like the economy, our future as a country and everything that has happened in the last eight years. McCain is just trying to separate himself from Bush's mistakes which he voted for 9 out of 10 times. McCain has mentioned I believe two times about not having any economic experience (watch it on You Tube, therealmccain.com), being in Iraq for 75-100 years, his refusal to sit down with foreign leaders and negotiate and everything else that he is trying to hide. Obama is not perfect by any means, but like Noam Chomsky said, he is the lesser of the two evils unfortunately and could begin the long process of repairing some things and eventually making it better for all of us. Historically, EVERYONE has always done better with a Democratic administration, agree or not.
