Celebrity couple
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt make a sizeable
donation to fight TB and HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia in the name of
their daughter Zahara,
The Jolie-Pitt
Foundation, started by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in
2006, has announced plans to make a $2 million
donation to the Global Health Committee to establish a
clinic in Ethiopia designed to treat children with
tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, reports the Times of
India.
Named after the
couple's 3-year-old daughter Zahara, the clinic will
follow in the footsteps of the Maddox Chivan Children's
Center, which provides medical education and social
services to children in Cambodia. The Ethiopian center
will also concentrate on fighting tuberculosis, the
main cause of death among children globally.
"Our goal is to
transfer the success we have had in Cambodia to
Ethiopia, where people are needlessly dying of tuberculosis,
a curable disease, and HIV/AIDS, a treatable disease,"
Jolie said in a statement.
"The fact that
poor people continue to die in our world today of TB,
a curable disease, because of lack of access to drugs and
care is unacceptable,” said Pitt in the
