joining the list of celebrities with plans to tie the
knot in response to California’s
legalization of same-sex marriage. Etheridge made the
announcement at Universal City’s Hard Rock Café,
where she performed to launch the restaurant’s
month-long breast cancer awareness program.

“We have
four children and we’re trying to find the right time
now actually to go down and do it,” Etheridge
told Extra.
In 2003, the pair
held a commitment ceremony with friends and family,
hoping that one day their marriage would be recognized
legally.
“I have a
belief in my heart that very soon, the walls and the gates
that have been held closed by people with narrow minds
and fear and hate in their hearts will burst
open,” Etheridge told The Advocate in a
