McCain Meets With Log Cabin President

The presumed Republican presidential nominee, Sen, John McCain, held a personal meeting with the head of the national gay Republican group the Log Cabin Republicans.

The presumed Republican presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain, held a personal meeting with the head of the national gay Republican group the Log Cabin Republicans.

LCR president Patrick Sammon confirmed the meeting with McCain in e-mail correspondence with the conservative gay website GayPatriot.net on Wednesday.

“We’ve had a series of productive meetings with the campaign since Senator McCain won the nomination -- including a recent meeting with the senator. We expect to have more conversations with the campaign as we head toward November,” Sammon said on the site.

No details have been released regarding the nature of the meeting. (The Advocate)

And Todd, intolerance has its place. I have no tolerance for bigots, nor do I have tolerance for those whom support bigotry, such as the Log Cabin Republicans!

"Not our enemy" Todd writes!! Hah!! The "gay republicans" (a total oxymoron) are most certainly the enemy. They are the turncoats in a fierce battle for equal civil rights. They are no better than a spy who offers national secrets to its worst enemy simply for financial gain. It is they who should be ashamed of themselves. Again, what pathetic creatures of the night they are!! Shame shame shame!!!

We are a diverse enough people that we can and should have a two-party strategy for the advancement of our rights. You have to dance with everyone at the party. We have friends and enemies in both parties. Don't forget that there has never been a pro-gay piece of legislation pass the Congress. Until we loosen the republican opposition, this will not change. A republican presidential candidate meeting with a gay group is a historic event. It has come after many years of hard work by gay republicans to establish themselves as a force within their very hostile part. They deserve our support and appreciation, not disdain. Several of the comments here strike of harsh intolerance. This is not our message. And gay republicans are not the enemy.

I can only understand gay republicans as a bunch of "best little boy in the world" types who want to please, or be, mommie or daddy. Even my wealthiest republican friends are disgusted with the party and will vote against them this time. Are there any "poor" Log Cabin Reps and is it just about taxes?

I see that the "Log-heads" are at it again. They cling to the belief that the Republican Party will 'see the light' as far as gay and lesbian equality is concerned. They refused to endorse Bush in 2004 due to his steadfast opposition to gay marriage. Well I have news for you guys and ladies; so does John McBush. Though I'm no great lover of Obama, he at least is on record as supporting civil unions and strongly opposes a Federal Amendment redefining marriage. Though McBush voted against it as well, it wasn't due to his support of marriage equality. Quite the contrary. It was because he believes it's up to the states to decide that issue and went on to say that if such an amendment came up in Arizona, he would vote for it. You "Log-heads' provide no service whatsoever to the gay and lesbian community. As long as you keep catering to our oppressors, you actually help to move us backwards.

The real thing to learn here is that Arizona, is becoming a gay friendly state! There are more and more out gays in Arizona, and with the influx of people to the state, it's becomming more modern. Arizona used to be dominated by Repubs, but now more and more Democrats are winning their seats.

Noted just today: John McCain has scheduled a private meeting today in Cincinnati with six leaders of the conservative movement in Ohio. The meeting was added to McCain’s schedule on Thursday morning, but it will remain closed to the press. McCain will meet with Jack Willkie, one of the founders of the National Right to Life Committee; Harvey Hook, a Christian leader from Columbus; Lori Viars, the executive director of the conservative group Family First; Mike Gonidakis, executive director of Ohio Right to Life; Phil Burress, an ardent opponent of gay marriage and president of Citizens for Community Values, an Ohio affiliate of Focus on the Family; and Chris Long, president of the Ohio Christian Alliance. I don't recall Obama meeting with anyone from "Focus on the Family" (why don't they just focus on their own damn families?"

I am a Gay man, who happens to be registered as a Republican. Now that being said, I don't like either McCain or Obama. I don't feel either of them will be our friends when push comes to shove. I have also stated this in an e-mail to Log Cabin Republicans. God help us all!
