14 Detained in Malaysian Gay Bust

Police in Penang, Malaysia, detained 14 men Sunday in a gym believed to be a front for a gay club.

Police in Penang, Malaysia, detained 14 men Sunday in a gym believed to be a front for a gay club. The Malaysian national newspaper The Star reported that vice authorities raided the gym on Saturday, obtaining 1,800 condoms from the premises. Assistant commanding officer Azam Abd Hamid said that used condoms were littered all over the floor. He also said that six men were discovered naked in three toilet stalls.

Police had been reportedly surveilling the gym in an effort to "clean up" the surrounding district and curb immoral activities. Sunday's bust was the third time the center had been raided since November 2007, when 34 men were detained, ages 22 to 55.

The men in custody are being questioned about other alleged illicit activities at the center. (The Advocate)

I hardly feel that the lesson here is to "keep out of the clubs." How about helping the people in these countries fight the prejudices and oppression of their governments? How about we let this be a lesson to open our eyes and look around and not take our freedom for granted.

Let this be a lesson ... keep out of the "clubs" in Malaysia (or any foreign country where they persecute gays) ... always be careful!
