Ex-GOP Official Pleads Guilty to Oral Sex Charge

The former chair of the Clark County, Ind., Republican Party pleaded guilty Thursday to criminal deviate conduct, which could land him in prison for up to six years.

The former chair of the Clark County, Ind., Republican Party pleaded guilty Thursday to criminal deviate conduct, which could land him in prison for up to six years. Glenn Murphy Jr. is accused of performing oral sex on a man who was asleep while the act took place. Along with the prison sentence, Murphy would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, according to the Courier-Journal newspaper in Louisville, Ky.

Murphy, 34, attended a party on July 28, 2007. The party was being held at the unnamed victim's sister's home, where both men spent the night. Later that night, the victim, 22, awoke to find Murphy performing oral sex on him against his will, according to special prosecutor Stanley Levco.

The plea bargain called for a six-year prison term, with four years suspended, meaning Murphy could spend as little as one year in prison under Indiana's policy of reducing sentences by one day for each day of good behavior.

Clark County superior court judge Vicki Carmichael said she would deliver a formal sentencing on June 30. Murphy is free on $25,000 bond.

Murphy resigned as chair of the Clark County Republican Party and as chair of the Young Republican National Federation last August when the allegations were made public on the blog of Indiana Democratic Party spokeswoman Jennifer Wagner in August 2007. (The Advocate)

This sounds fishy to me. If the unnamed "victim" didnn't want the blowjob, why was he "prepared" for it? And how and why did the incident become public?

What does Gay or Republican have to do with coersive sex. This guy performed sex on an unwilling/unknowing participant. Thats Rape. Maybe it was one of those "i'll pretend like I'm sleeping" situations and then he freeked out, but otherwise it was rape. It has nothing to do with gay other than it was a gay sex act. Republicans have a lot of issues, closeted gayness is one of the least of thier worries.

Both of these victims of our vicious culture have my pity. And while it's true the GOP own most of the closets, there are a few closets in every party and demographic. The problem is a manifestation of the viciousness which infects every culture which allows (or allowed) religious shiboleths to dictate human rights.

Isn't it sad what the closet does to people? It's just terrible how repression and shame end up manifesting in guys like Murphy & Craig. What are they so afraid of? My partner & I are openly gay everywhere we go and we rarely have any negative feedback. Come out! Live openly! Change your party from the inside, out!
