The former chair

guilty Thursday to criminal deviate conduct, which could
land him in prison for up to six years.

Murphy Jr. is accused of performing oral sex on a
man who was asleep while the act took place. Along
with the prison sentence, Murphy would have to register as a
sex offender for the rest of his life, according to the
Courier-Journal newspaper in Louisville, Ky.
Murphy, 34,
attended a party on July 28, 2007. The party was being held
at the unnamed victim's sister's home, where both men spent
the night. Later that night, the victim, 22, awoke to
find Murphy performing oral sex on him against his
will, according to special prosecutor Stanley Levco.
The plea bargain
called for a six-year prison term, with four years
suspended, meaning Murphy could spend as little as one year
in prison under Indiana's policy of reducing sentences
by one day for each day of good behavior.
Clark County
superior court judge Vicki Carmichael said she would deliver
a formal sentencing on June 30. Murphy is free on $25,000
bond.
Murphy resigned
as chair of the Clark County Republican Party and as
chair of the Young Republican National Federation last
August when the allegations were made public on the
blog of Indiana Democratic Party spokeswoman Jennifer
Wagner in August 2007. (The Advocate)
