To commemorate the 40th
anniversary of New York's Stonewall rebellion,
drkrm.gallery is exhibiting the work of photographer Anthony
Friedkin.
To commemorate the 40th
anniversary of the Stonewall rebellion, L.A.'s
drkrm.gallery is exhibiting "Gay, a Photographic Essay
1969-1972" by Los Angeles-based photographer Anthony
Friedkin. The exhibit's vintage photos chronicle the early
gay rights movement, with subjects including hustlers, drag
queens, transsexuals, entertainers, and a gay pride parade
through Hollywood.
Friedkin's images
have appeared in
The Advocate, Rolling Stone, Time,
and several other publications. Some of his work is in the
permanent collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Museum
of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum, and
the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco.
An opening-night
reception honoring the photographer will take place Saturday,
June 20, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the gallery, located at
2121 San Fernando Rd., Suite 3, in Los Angeles. The exhibit
continues through August 3.
