Oregon's attorney
general has ruled after a five-month investigation into the sex
scandal surrounding Portland mayor Sam Adams that there is no
credible evidence the openly gay mayor had sex with Beau
Breedlove during their 2005 relationship before Breedlove
turned 18.
Adams had been under
investigation for an affair he admitted to having with
Breedlove when he was 18. Though the two met while Breedlove
was still 17, Adams maintained the relationship didn't turn
sexual until Breedlove was legal.
Atty. Gen. John Kroger
said, among other things, that Breedlove is not a credible
witness, pointing to his recent seminude spread in
the
gay erotic magazine
Unzipped
.
In May,
The Oregonian
published an article saying that phone records indicated Adams
had called Breedlove 33 times before his 18th birthday, seeming
to contradict the mayor's claims that the former legislative
intern had pursued a relationship with him.
That article kicked a
statewide recall effort into high gear. Days later, the same
paper urged him to resign -- more than 500 volunteers
attempting to collect the 50,000 signatures necessary to get a
recall on the ballot are currently working throughout the
state.
