After a long battle with anal cancer, former Charlie's Angels star Farrah Fawcett passed away Thursday morning at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif. She was 62.

News reports had suggested Fawcett had lost her battle with cancer. She was with on-again, off-again partner Ryan O'Neal and friend Alana Stewart at the time of her death.

Fawcett rose to fame in the 1970s as the star of Charlie's Angels but established herself as a serious actress with critically acclaimed turns in movies like The Burning Bed.

The actress was declared cancer-free in 2007, but three months later doctors at the University of California, Los Angeles, medical center told her the cancer had returned. Fawcett sought out experimental treatments in Germany, but weeks ago it was reported she'd stopped fighting her illness.

Who doesn't love Farrah? Of course, she was a sensation in the '70s, but I've been captivated by Farrah since her performance in The Burning Bed. She showed the world that she was a great actress. I wish her passing was not overshadowed by Michael Jackson's death. Peace to Farrah, Ryan and their family.

and Secondly, to c from Seattle: "she was killed by cancer treatment and chemo, as are most patients who die of cancer. humbling, considering even the wealthy aren't immune to the barbarism of the cancer industry." While no one pretends that chemotherapy is a one stop shop for cancer survival, it remains the ONLY PROVEN TREATMENT for many cancers. My mother is a happy survivor of breast cancer (sorry Jimmy, Tit Cancer for you) and went through hell to beat the disease. But she'd be as dead as a doorstop if it wasn't for their barbarism. Oh, and drinking fennel twig tea will not a single cancer cell be disturbed by. So leave your new age therapies out of the adult discussions and leave it to the professions, ok? We'll miss you Farrah... Ill never look at a woman flicking her curls again without thinking of you.

Two commenters here need to be addressed... Not least because of the insensitivity in raising their issues when they did, but for their utter lack of understanding. Firstly to Jimmy H-P "Couldn't a better term be used for her condition other than anal cancer?" What would you prefer? Ass cancer? Booty cancer? Sphincter cancer? Remember the journalistic 5 W's, what where who why when. Should I really be pointing this out to you or do you enjoy making an example of how even homosexuals in America are irritating puritans who think Jesus gets all apocalyptic when a rude word is spoken... Hmmm?

I was most impressed with Farrah's performances in The Burning Bed and Extremities. They were two non-glamorous roles that proved Farrah could act.
